MODULE 10
Preparatory Activity- 5 MINUTE CROSSWORD PUZZLE!
COMMUNICATION
About 80% of our time is invested in communication. The
expression, 'no man is an island,' had become a cliche, a
common adage which simply implies that there is a need
for everybody to communicate. Remember Belle? She
even talks to inanimate objects and even some of us do
these things in real life. That's how invested humans are in
communication.
Compared before, communication is more direct, fast and
easy yet socializing is limited. But really, what matters in a
communication?
It's the success. The success of sending and receiving
message and being able to work it through. To put it
simply, establishing a good rapport
PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT AND
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
• .People with great communication skills tend to
have a better and impressive personality
• Effective communication skills strengthen the
bond among individuals.
• Speak convincingly so that the other person
understands what you intend to communicate.
• Take care of your body language
• Be very particular about the pronunciation of
words.
• It is important to be a good and patient listener
for effective communication skills
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION
(@skillsyouneed,2017)
• Interpersonal communication is the process by which
people exchange information, feelings, and meaning
through verbal and non-verbal messages: it is face-to-
face communication
• Interpersonal communication is not just about what is
actually said - the language used - but how it is said and
the non-verbal messages sent through tone of voice,
facial expressions, gestures and body language.
• When two or more people are in the same place and are
aware of each other's presence, then communication is
taking place, no matter how subtle or unintentional.
Elements of Interpersonal Communication
• The communicators
• The message
• Noise
• Feedback
• Context
• Channel
EXERCISE 1: Look for a theory in communication
process and try to check how close it is to the
given elements by explaining your thoughts.
LISTENING
Apart from that, communication skills is also channeled to how well you can listen (not eavesdrop).
Good listening skills mean you can catch up to instructions and follow it perfectly. Good listening
skills does not limit one there, but also enables a person to think critically like the consequences of
the said instruction and questions it and being able to discriminate good and bad answers.
However, good listeners also listen from the hearts. Listening skills should be done with pure
intentions, not with bias and prejudice. A person who listens to find fault is not a good person to talk
to at the moment for he/she will only understand it in his/her perspective. This will only end in a
disastrous conversation as one or both have malicious thoughts.
example:
You ask a person why they keep on telling you lies, and when they answer you don't believe them
coz they've lied once then, what's the point of asking?
IF there's a trivial question, do not give it on one go, but rather process it like,
"I would appreciate it if we can talk personally about this issue. And i just want to learn the truth.
And i'll trust you'll only say the truth."
And so the person answers. Give them you 100% confidence. Tell them you believe them, even if
you have doubts. IF you heard a loophole, ask them about it. Keep on asking them until you figure
out the truth. Believe it or not, I can keep on telling you how the earth is spherical but if you believe
that it's flat then I can't convince you otherwise. Realities and real things vary from person to person
for it is a child of experience and knowledge, which hopefully becomes a wisdom.
