Can you think of different types of sentences?

What is sentence?

A sentence is a group of words that


expresses a complete though.
Example:
She is reading a book.
Importance of varying sentence structure in
writing:
Varying sentence structure makes
writing more interesting and easier
to read. It keeps the reader's
attention, avoids boredom, and
helps clearly express different
ideas and emotions.
What does a sentence
consist of?
Sentence is consist of clauses.
It may be one clause.
It may be independent clause.
It may consist of one or more clauses,
which may be collection of independent
and dependant clauses.
Simple sentence:
Simple sentence is made of Only one independent
clause.
It shows complete meaning.
It have no dependent clause.
Example:
1: I bought a new home.
2: She reads a book
Compound sentence:
Compound sentences do consist of two or more
independent clauses, joined by coordinating
conjunctions. (FANBOYS)
Compound sentences have no
dependent clause.

Examples:
1: I helped him, and he got happy.
2: He is sick, yet he is working.
Complex sentence:
A Complex sentence consists of one
independent and at least one dependent
clause.
It is joined by subordinating
conjunction(although, since, when,
unless). Or it is joined by relative
pronouns (that, which, who).
Example:
1: she is wearing a shirt which
looks awesome.
2: Although he studied diligently,
he didn’t pass the exam.
Activity:
Identify sentence types from examples.
Identify whether each sentence below is simple,
compound, or complex:

1: The sun was setting behind the mountains.
