sense of confusion
and uncertainty
sometimes with
feelings of anxiety
that may affect
people exposed to
an alien culture or
environment
without adequate
preparation.There
are many factors
making people
shock culture such
as climate, rules of
behavior, dressing
and food.
• There are many factors that can cause
culture shock. These factors include:
• Language Differences: Language differences
are one of the main reasons for culture
shock. It is caused by not knowing the
language of the country you are going to or
not learning it completely.
• Differences in Lifestyles: A situation that is
normal in an individual’s own country may
not be welcomed in the country you are
going to. In such cases, the individual may
not fit in with the society.
• Religious Differences: Not being able to find
a place to practice your own religion or
seeing the beliefs and worship of different
religions are situations that can cause
culture shock in a person.
• Food and Beverage Culture Differences:
Eating and drinking is one of the basic
needs of a person. While breakfast is
important in some cultures, it is not the
case in other cultures. Food differences,
portion differences, etc. create problems for
the individual who has just entered that
Adoption Phase: The person has now adapted to the culture, language
and habits of the country he/she has moved to.
Honeymoon Phase: In this phase, the person looks at the situations
and changes around them positively.
The stage of rejection:He/she begins to face problems with
accommodation, language, and service shopping.
• There are four stages of culture shock:
Adjustment Stage: The person returns to the adaptation process. They
are willing to learn how to adapt to the new cultural environment.
• Reverse culture
shock is the situation
that occurs when a
person returns to
their own country
after living in
another country for
a long time.
• It is not possible to completely
prevent culture shock.The first of
these is to accept that there will be
difficulties when you go to a new
country. Research should be done
about the new culture.
Documentaries and series about
the country will help the
person.Knowing the local language,
even at a basic level, before going
to the country will make the person
feel more comfortable.And also a
person should be tolerant of
differences and people.
