AND HOUSING

PRESENTATION TOPICS

Define ventilation and its types

Discuss the importance of ventilation

Affect of poor ventilation on health

Discuus the importance of air

Describe house types

Standards and needs of housing

• Affect of poor housing on health
VENTILATION:

ventilation is define as the science of

maintaining atmospheric conditions which
are comfortable and suitable to human body
Ventilation is a the process of changing or
replacing air in any space to provide high
indoor air quality (i.e to control temperature,
replenish oxygen, or remove moisture, odors,
heat, dust, airborne, bacteria and carbon
dioxide.
CON...

• Ventilation includes both the exchange of air to

the outside as well as circulation of air within
the building.
• it is one of the most important factors for
maintaining acceptable indoor air quality in
billings.
TYPES OF VENTILATION:

• There are two main types of ventilation:

1. Natural Ventilation it is the ventilation vof
building with outside air without the use of fan or
other mechanical [Link] can be achieved with
openable windows when the space is to ventilate are
small and and the architecture permits.
Natural forces like air temperature wind etc .play an
important role in natural ventilation.
MECHANICAL OR FORCED VENTILATION

In mechanical ventilation there are electronic devices

such as fans that remove air from a single room to
whole house systems that remove polluted indoor air
and then distribute filtered and conditioned outdoor air
throughout the house
Kitchens and bathrooms typically have mechanical
exhaust to control odors and sometimes humidity.
AFFECT OF POOR VENTILATION ON HEALTH

Poor ventilation can induce irritation, impair

concentration and cause fatigue.

It may cause various disease like legionnaires

Disease (cause headache and muscle
pain)Humidifiers fever (cause ,fever,lethargy)
• It is associated with sick building syndrome during
which occupant may complaint for dry
throat ,headache and sore dry eyes.
CONT...

It causes respiratory disorders like

asthma.

It causes suffocation if carbon

monoxide is in increased
concentration in the environment.
• It causes hypersensitivity and
allergies, sinus congestion,
dizziness and nausea
IMPORTANCE OF VENTILATION

1 it is done to create air movement so as to remove

vitiate air or it,s replacement by fresh air
[Link] prevent an undue concentration of body odor,
fumes,dust and other industrial product
• [Link] remove product of combusion and in some
cases, to remove body heat and heat liberated by
electrical appliance
CON...

[Link] creat healthy living conditions by

preventing the undue accumulation of
corbon dioxide and moisture and
depelation of the Oxygen content in the air
• [Link] prevent any flammable
concentrations of gas vapors in industrial
area
DISCUSS THE IMPORTANCE OF AIR

• [Link] breathe it, we need oxygen and plants need carbon

dioxide.
• [Link] is a mixture of many gases oxygen, nitrogen are
significant components of air that play important role in
survival of life on earth
• [Link] is important because it helps water move between the
states in a process scientists call the water cycle. Heated by
the sun, surface water evaporates into the air and becomes
water vapor. As temperatures drop, water vapor forms clouds
as it condenses.
CONT..

[Link] helps in dispersion of plant spores.

• [Link] which makes our atmosphere
also prevent us harmful radiations of
sun
• 6. Fire spread control
DESCRIBE THE TYPES OF HOUSING

The general types of housing are

1 Detached Housing.

2 Semi Detached Housing.

3 Terraced Housing ( Row Housing).

• 4 Apartments.
CONT..

DETACHED HOUSING

1. It is a free – standing
residential building.

2. General found in less dense

urban areas the suburbs of
cities, and rural areas.
• 3. Surrounding by a garden.
CON..

SEMI DETACHED HOUSING

1. They consist of pairs of

houses built side by side as
units.

2. They share a party (common)

wall.
[Link] each house’s layout is
a mirror image of it’s twin.
CONT...

TERRACED HOUSING (ROW

HOUSING)

1.A row of identical of Miror-

image houses.

[Link] share Side wall.

• [Link] first and last of these
houses is called an end terrace.
APARTMENT

1. An apartment, or flat, is
a self-contained housing
unit that occupies only part
of a building, generally on a
single storey.
