NAVARATRI [DUSSEHRA]

IMPORTANT POINTS FOR NAVARATRI
• We also call Navaratri as Dussehra
• We celebrate it for nine days
• We wake up early in the morning and take a shower
• We do pooja of nine [9] different gods
• We do pooja in the morning and evening
• Everyone celebrate it with enthusiasm
• School also gives holidays for 1 or 2 weeks
DAY 1 OF NAVARATRI

DAY 1 OF NAVARATRI Navaratri begins with goddess Shailputri, which


means Daughter of Mountains. She is the
Daughter of Hemavana, the King of Himalayas.
Shailputri is considered as purest embodiment
of Durga. The colour is yellow
DAY 2 OF NAVARATRI

The name Brahmacharini means the ‘one who


practices devout austerity’. She holds {rosary}
in her right hand and {kamandal} in her left
hand. Lord Mangal, the god of all Fortunes is
governed by the goddess. The colour is green
DAY 3 OF NAVARATRI

Chandraghanta is the third Durga. She


represents peace, tranquillity and prosperity
in life. Chandraghan- ta is derived from 2
Hindi words, Chandra {half moon} which is
her forehead in the shape of a ghanta
{bell}.the colour is grey.
DAY 4 OF NAVARATRI

Goddess kushmanda is worshipped on the


fourth day of Navaratri. She is considered the
creator of universe as she is the one who
brought light to the dark cosmos. The colour is
orange.
DAY 5 OF NAVARATRI
Skandmata is the mother of Skanda or Lord
Kartikeya, who was chosen by gods as their
commander in chief in the war against the
demon. She is accompanied by Lord Skanda
in his infant form. Devi Skandmata is a
symbol of mother-son relationship. She is also
called padamasini since she is often depicted
seated on the Lotus flower. She is also
worshipped in the form of Parvati,
Maheshwari or Mata Gauri. The colour is
white.
DAY 6 OF NAVARATRI

Goddess Katyayani blesses with serenity,


growth and fertility. She represents red colour
and planet Jupiter. Perform Katyayani homa
and Vrata to get rid of manglik or Kuja dosha
and have a prosperous married life.
DAY 7 OF NAVARATRI

On Saptami , ma Kaalratri is worshipped.


Legends go to say she forgo her skin colour and
embraces dark complexion as black to kill
demons Shumba and nishumba. She rides on
donkey with her 4 hands. the colour is blue.
DAY 8 OF NAVARATRI

The eighth day of Navaratri is Ashtami, this


day is associated with Mata mahagauri.
Mahagauri has 4 arms. Her right arm is in the
pose of allaying fear and right lower hand
holds trident in it. The colour is pink.
DAY 9 OF NAVARATRI

Siddhidatri is worshiped on nineth and final day of


Navaratri. Her name means ‘giver of supernatural
power’. siddhidatri bestows wisdom and insight to
those who worship her. The colour is purple
