PREPOSITION OF TIME
IN (general)
• Periods of time : in the future, in the past, in the
present
Example: In the future, I want to be a doctor.
• Years: 1997, Decades: 90s, Century: 19th century
Example: The machine was invented in 1997.
• Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall
Example: I go to beach in the summer.
• Months and weeks
Exampe: I will finish the project in five weeks, The
event will start in June.
• Parts of days: morning, evening, afternoon
Example: I drink cofee in the morning.
PREPOSITION OF TIME
IN (much more specific)
• Dates: December 28th, 1997, 17th of August
1945
Example: My birthday is on December 28th, 1997.
• Holidays with ‘Day’: Christmas Day, Eid Adha Day
Example: I visit my uncle on Eid Adha Day.
• Days of the week: on Monday, on Saturday night
• Days of the month: on 17th of august, on the last
day of december
• Miscellaneous: on time.
Example: You have to submit the paper on time.
PREPOSITION OF TIME
AT (the most specific)
• Specific times: at 10 am, at 3 o’clock, at
lunchtime, at the moment (atm)
Example: We will start our class at 3 o’clock, I am
quite busy at the moment.
• Holidays without ‘days’: Eid Adha, Eid Fitri, Easter
Example: At Eid Fitri I always make ketupat.
• Miscellaneous: at night.
Example: The celebration will start at night.
PREPOSITION OF PLACE
IN (general)
• Countries: I am in Indonesia, She stayed in
Ireland.
• Cities: I stay in Sukabumi, My dad lives in Jakarta.
• Enclose space: in a car, in a taxi, in the
classroom, in the house.
Example: I study english in the classroom.
• Books/Newspaper: in the Pikiran Rakyat, in the
dictionary.
Example: I read the news in the Pikiran Rakyat, I
can not find the word in the dictionary.
PREPOSITION OF PLACE
ON (less specific)
• Streets/Roads/Avenues
Example: I live on Veteran street.
• Surfaces: on the floor, on the table, on the ceiling
Example: The book is on the table.
• Public Transport: on the train, on a buss, on a
plane
Example: I met my friend on the train.
• Communications & Media: on the internet, on the
TV
Example: I saw my mom on the TV.
PREPOSITION OF PLACE
AT (specific)
• Addresses: I live at Veteran 1 street.
• Specific location: at the classroom, at the gym
Example: I train my body at the gym.
• Shops: at the cafe, at the coffee shop.
Example: There is a discount at the coffee shop.
• Group activities: at the party, at the concert
• Home, work, places of studies: at school, at
university, at work, at home
• Top, Bottom, Start, End
Example: I saw a cat at the top of the building.
