What are Personal Protective Equipments?
➢ Used to reduce a variety of hazards that can
cause injuries on the job site.
➢ Used to protect the health and safety of workers.
➢ Provides an essential barrier when these other
measures cannot fully eliminate risks.
Training Employees In the Proper Use of PPEs
Employees must be trained to know at least the
following:
➢ When PPE is necessary.
➢ What PPE is necessary.
➢ How to properly put on take off, adjust and wear
PPEs.
➢ The limitations of PPEs.
➢ Proper care and maintenance and disposal of
PPEs.
Types of PPEs
➢ Face and Eye Protection
➢ Hearing Protection
➢ Respiration Protection
➢ Skin and Body Protection
Face and Eye Protection
● Includes goggles and face shields.
● Used to prevent the face and eyes from getting
burned from different substances and toxic gases
that can cause damage to the skin.
Hearing Protection
● Includes ear plugs and muffs.
● Used to prevent hearing problems or permanent
hearing loss.
Respiration Protection
● Includes gas masks and respirators.
● Used for jobs that may cause the inhalation of
harmful substance that can affect one’s health.
Skin and Body Protection
● Include helmets, suits and safety boots.
● Used to prevent external injuries such as cuts,
burns, fractures or even amputations.
PPEs Safety Inspection
The use of PPEs should be practiced by all job workers.
If not practiced, the safety officer should:
➢ If there is no PPE available, the safety officers
should provide properly fitted PPE.
➢ After using the PPE, one should ensure they are
cleaned, sanitized and ready to be used again.
➢ Inspect the PPE for any cuts, tears and damages. If
so, then the PPE should be replaced.
