INTRODUCTION
Limits
Derivatives
Differentiation Rules
AIM AND OBJECTIVES
This chapter aims to introduce the concept of
differentiation and its applications.
Through the following objectives:-
To introduce the operational principles of
differentiation in calculus. Also to analyze many
problems that have long be considered by
mathematicians and scientists.
It will also cover the basic rules of differentiation
and provide examples of how differentiation is
used in real-world problems.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The significance of this study cannot be over
emphasized especially in this modern era where
everything in the entire world is changing with
respect to time, because the rate of change is an
integral part of operation in science and
technology, hence there is need to ascertain the
origin of calculus and its application.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of this work is to give an essential idea in
differentiation application in integration.

METHODOLOGY
Gradient: Straight line and curve
As we rightly said in the study of rate of change of a function,
the gradient of a line is measured by taking the ratio of the
increase in Y and the increase in x in moving from one
point to another on the line. Such that if (x1, y1,) and (x2,
y2,) are two point on a line, the gradient is then taken as
Differentiation As A Limit Of Rate Of Change Of A
Function
The procedure for finding or f1(x) as explained above is
called differentiation. Often at times, we call it the
derivation of y with respect to x or the differential
coefficient. The measures the way or how often a given
function changes. Hence we say it measures the rate of the
change of the function y when viewed with x.
Thus when we say the rate of change of 3x 2 is 6x. we mean
the gradient of the tangent or the derivative of 3x 2 is 6x.
EXPECTED RESULT
Mathematical Foundations: Research emphasizes the importance
of understanding limits and derivatives in differentiation.
Physical Applications: Studies have shown that differentiation is
crucial in describing the motion of objects, including velocity and
acceleration.
Economic Applications: Studies have demonstrated the use of
differentiation in modeling economic systems, including supply and
demand curves.
Optimization: Differentiation is used to find the maximum or
minimum of a function, which is useful in optimizing systems.
Motion Along a Line: Differentiation is used to describe the motion
of an object along a line, including velocity and acceleration.
Related Rates: Differentiation is used to solve problems involving
related rates, such as the rate at which the area of a circle changes
when its radius changes.
