Climate Change

• Understanding the Causes and Effects of Climate Change

• Presented by:
• Mc Krieger Vhins Matados
• Elvan Jan Branzuela
Introduction

This presentation explores the critical

causes of climate change, emphasizing
greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation,
and industrial activities. It will also
highlight the devastating effects, such as
rising sea levels, extreme weather events,
and biodiversity loss.
01

Causes
Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Greenhouse gas emissions, primarily from

burning fossil fuels for energy, are the
leading cause of climate change. These
gases trap heat in the atmosphere, leading
to a warming effect. Significant
contributors include transportation,
electricity generation, and industrial
processes that release carbon dioxide,
methane, and nitrous oxide.
Deforestation
and Land Use
Deforestation, primarily for agriculture and
development, contributes to climate change by reducing
the number of trees that can absorb carbon dioxide.
Land-use changes, such as urbanization, further
exacerbate the issue by disrupting ecosystems and
increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Protecting and
restoring forests is crucial in combating climate change.
Industrial
Activities
Industrial activities, including manufacturing and
energy production, contribute significantly to
climate change. These sectors release large
volumes of greenhouse gases through processes
such as combustion of fossil fuels, chemical
reactions, and waste management. Transitioning to
cleaner energy sources and adopting sustainable
practices is essential to reduce emissions from
industry.

Effects
Rising Sea
Levels
Rising sea levels, caused by melting ice caps and
thermal expansion of water, threaten coastal
communities and ecosystems. Low-lying areas are
increasingly at risk of flooding, resulting in loss of land,
habitat destruction, and displacement of populations.
Continued sea-level rise could lead to significant
economic and social challenges worldwide.
Extreme Weather Events

Climate change increases the frequency and

intensity of extreme weather events, such
as hurricanes, droughts, and heatwaves.
These events can have devastating effects
on human life, agriculture, and
infrastructure. For instance, hurricanes may
cause severe flooding, while prolonged
droughts can lead to crop failures and water
shortages, impacting food security.
Impact on
Biodiversity
Climate change poses a significant threat to
biodiversity worldwide. As temperatures rise
and habitats shift, many species face extinction
due to their inability to adapt quickly enough.
Ecosystems are disrupted, affecting the balance
of life. Protecting and preserving biodiversity is
crucial for maintaining healthy ecosystems and
the services they provide to humanity.
Conclusion
s
Climate change is a pressing global issue
driven by human activities, significantly
impacting our planet. By understanding its
causes and effects, we can take informed
action to mitigate its impacts through
sustainable practices and policies. The urgency
to address climate change and protect our
environment cannot be overstated.
