Operation Theater Light
• Operation lights illuminates the surgical site for optimal
visualization of small, low contrast objects at varying depths in
incisions and patient body cavity.

Uses
• To provide sufficient and uniform light in the operation area.
• Improved shadow control for optimal visualization.
• Available up to 180,000 lux (approximately)
• Used in operation theater, delivery and dressing room.

Properties of OT light
• Shadows less
• Low voltage operating system
• Natural light
• Easy to move
• Sufficient light low heat.

properties
• Because hands, heads and instruments can intrude over
the surgical field, these lights are designed it reduce
shadows and minimize color distortions.
• They are also made to operate for extends periods of
time without radiating excessive heat, which could cause
discomfort or dry tissue at surgical site.
• A surgical light consists of single or multiple light head
assembly attached to a suspension arm that permits
vertical and circular motion. The suspension arm is
usually connected to a stationary adaptor about which
the arm can rotate.
• It is operated less then 48 volts

Operation Theater Light
• The surgical lighting fixture can be either mounted at a fixed
point on a ceiling or a wall or positioned along a ceiling
mounted track.

• For ceiling mounted lights one or more transformer are
located either above the finished ceiling or in a remote-control
box mounted on the wall to convert incoming line voltage to
the lower voltage required for most bulbs.

• Most surgical lights have dimmer control, and
some also feature adjustable field size to
reduce the illumination of surgical site .

• Illumination is measured in foot candle or lux (1
foot candle equals 10.764 lux). Parameters are
measure at 30 cm distance

• Another consideration is color quality, a measure of the spectral
content of the light, expressed as the color temperature in
Kelvin or by the color rendering index (CRI) the noon sun a
color temperature of 5000 to 6000 k; low color temperature
cause objects to take on reddish tint, and high color
temperature cause a bluish tint.

Color Temperature
• Color temperature has been described most simply
as a method of describing the color characteristics of
light, usually either warm (yellowish) or cool (bluish),
and measuring it in degrees of Kelvin (°K).
• A more technical definition assigns a numerical value
to the color emitted by a light source, measured in
degrees of Kelvin

Electrical Testing and Inspection
• Ensure that the installation is grounded.
• Ensure that the correct spare lamps are installed.
• Inspect lamp holders, wiring looms, connectors and
contacts for proper, insulation, mechanical or thermal
damage.
• All power switch and brightness controls must operate
as smoothly.
• Operating lights must not color change any brightness
changes or intermittency as support arms are
manipulated.

Electrical Testing and Inspection
• Ensure that back up circuits functioning in the event
of primary ac supply failure.
• Any back up circuit employing batteries must have
regular battery maintenance performed.
BMET T ra ining
Optical Testing and Inspection
• Optical components must be crack and chip free.
• Optical components must be dust and lint free.
• Ensure that infrared heat filters or shields are present
and in the correct position
• Optical focus mechanism must be checked for smooth
operation and functionality.
