Bridge Site Survey

The document outlines the importance of bridges and the process of conducting a site survey for bridge construction, which includes examining physical characteristics such as topography and soil composition. It details objectives for site selection, criteria for locating control points, and the necessary instruments for surveying. Additionally, it describes the methodology for bridge axis selection, levelling techniques, and detailing of features on a topographic map.

Bridge

Site
Survey
Bridges are essential structures that
connect two separate locations across
obstacles like deep valleys, gorges, rivers,
or streams.
Bridge Site refers to the location where a
bridge is planned to be constructed or where
an existing bridge is being accessed for
maintenance, repair or replacement
A bridge site survey involves a detailed
examination of the physical characteristics
of the site, including topography, soil
composition, hydrology, geology, etc.

2
Objectives?
 To select the possible bridge site and axis for the construction of bridge.

 To collect the preliminary data i.e. normal water flow level, high flood
level.

 To study about the geological features of the ground.

3
Site Selection
 The site should be selected on the very
stable rocks
 The bridge axis should be perpendicular
to the flow direction
 The river width should be narrow
 The free board should be at least 5m
