What is starter in a motor
• A Starter is a device that controls the use of
electrical power to equipment, usually a motor
• As the name implies, starters "start“ motors
• They can also stop them and protect them
• Starters are made from two building blocks:
– Contactors, and
– Overload Protection.
Motor Starter
Induction Motor
(AC): The type of
electric motor used
in conventional AC
water pumps. It
requires a high
surge of current to
start and a stable
voltage supply,
making it relatively
expensive to run by
solar power.

Motor Starter …
• Contactors control the
electric current to the motor.
Their function is to repeatedly
establish and interrupt an
electrical power circuit
• Overload Protection protects
motors from drawing too much
current, overheating, and from
literally "burning out"
Direct On-line (DOL) Starter

Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB)
Moulded Case Circuit Breaker
An MCB is a better alternative to a Fuse since it does
not require replacement once an overload is detected.
MCCB or Moulded Case Circuit Breaker —rated
current up to 2,500 A. Thermal or thermal-magnetic
operation. Trip current may be adjustable in larger
ratings
MCCB has three main functions:
•Protection against overload
•Protection against electrical faults
•Switching a circuit on and off
Magnetic Contactor
Magnetic contactor is a switchgear device. It is
made for frequent switching operation even might
be switched on & off 1000 times in a day. Hence it
is mechanically robust and strong to withstand
such switching and capable of handling high
power.
Overload Protection Relay
Thermal overload relays are economic electromechanical
protection devices for the main circuit. They offer reliable
protection for motors in the event of overload or phase
failure. The thermal overload relay can make up a
compact starting solution together with contactors
Push Button Switch
Push Button Switches consist of a simple electric
switch mechanism which controls some aspect of a
machine or a process. Buttons are typically made
out of hard material such as plastic or metal. The
surface is usually shaped to accommodate the
human finger or hand, so the electronic switch can
be easily depressed or pushed.
Indicating Lamps
For checking electrical equipment operating statuses
Current Transformer
A current transformer is an instrument transformer, used
along with measuring or protective devices, in which the
secondary current is proportional to the
primary current (under normal conditions of operation)

Electric Wire
• Use copper wire only
• Select proper size
• Obey color code:
- Red, Yellow and Blue for phase
- Black for neutral
- Green for earth
• Make tight joints
