RAUZA OF SAYYID USMAN
•MOUSOLEUM 100’SQ. IS MORE WORTHY THAN THE

•THE MOST NOTEWORTHY FEATURE OF THIS TOMB IS
THE INNER RING OF TWELVE INSTEAD OF THE
CONVENTIONAL EIGHT COLUMNS TO HOLD UP CENTRAL
DOME.
•THE CENTRAL ENCLOSURE IS SOURROUNDED BY TWO
CONCENTRIC AISLES FORMED BY BUNCHING COLUMNS
IN CLUSTERS OF FOUR.
•AT EACH CORNER IS PLANTED A SMALL DOME TO
COMPLETE THE PANCHATAYANA FORM OF PLANNING.
•LAST OF GUJARAT TOMBS TO USE THE HINDU

rulers too adopted the more Islamic
arcuate style of bldg.
• Minars at 2 extremities and hindu

Rudabai wav STEPWELL
THIS step well is located in the northern outsides of the
village, Adalaj. It derives its name from the lady patron
who had built this stepwell, ruda. Built in A.D. 1499.
The step well is 75.3 meters in total length. it is laid out
in a north south direction , the well being in the north
and the entrance in the south.
It has straight descending corridor. It’s the only major
monument, which has three entrance stairs leading to
the stepped corridor. These three entrances meet in the
first storey underground in a huge square platform,
which has to the top an octagonal opening.
The platform is resting on 16 pillars, eight of which are
standing at the corners of the octagonal and two each in
front of each main side, marking the four directions of
the stairs. The two pillars to the north are based on the
fourth step of the stepped corridor and, therefore, are
slightly taller than the others.

The pillars in the first row have a base
of 61.5-cm square, whereas the base
of the others is 56-cm square.

The well – the well has a


diameter of 7-m.
The octagonal shaft is a square with 9-m long sides, the middle
of which is the octagonal shaft with sides of 8.4-m . Twelve
pillars frame the square, eight of which stand on the corners of
