RUBRICS AND RULES
OF THE GAME

• Volleyball has a detailed set of rules and regulations set by the International Volleyball
Federation (FIVB).
• Rules cover aspects like substitutions, timeouts, and specific guidelines for serving,
blocking, and attacking.
• Referees enforce these rules during official matches.
This is a simplified overview of how to play volleyball and the basic rules. To become
proficient in the game, it's recommended to join a local volleyball club or league, where you
can receive coaching and gain practical experience. Additionally, watching professional
matches can help you understand the game at a higher level.
FUNDAMENTALS OF THE GAME
Those actions are serving, passing,
setting, spiking, blocking, and digging.

1. *Serving*: The first contact in a

game that can give your team an
edge. The goal is to disrupt the other
team and score points. Types include
underhand, overhand, jump, floater,
and topspin serves. The key is
accuracy and consistency.
2. Passing (Bump): Used to
receive a serve or hit. The aim is
to keep the ball in play and start
an attack. Players use their
forearms to send the ball to the
setter.
3. Setting: A crucial offensive
move that decides who spikes
the ball. Done by setters, it
requires sharp decision-making
and awareness of player
positions. The ball is handled
with fingertips, following a
specific technique, to aid spikers.
Experienced setters can vary the
speed of sets for strategic
advantages.
4. Attacking: The final phase of the
pass-set-spike sequence, frequently
known as hitting, is used to earn
points. There are numerous techniques
to attack a ball, but spiking is the most
popular and consistently efficient one.
Spiking is a technique for smashing
the ball onto the other team's side of
the court that combines jumping with
strong
5. arm:swings.
Blocking Blocking is a defensive
strategy used to prevent an opponent's
attack and has the potential for an
increase in points. Blockers must
concentrate on blocking the offensive
attacks of the other team while also
keeping an eye on the opposing setter
to better forecast the opposing team's
attack plan. Blockers must be able to
6. Digging: To prevent the ball from contacting
the ground, one defensive technique is to dig.
It is frequently used when a regular
underhand pass would be impossible or very
challenging to make and the ball is not coming
directly at the player. In order to be light on
their feet and get into a digging stance, the
player must squat low to the ground with their
heels lifted. The underhand pass position must
then be assumed by them. The player must
push off their toes and move their upper body
with their lower body while digging for the
ball. The ability to dive for the ball is also a
must for players, however it's frequently not
necessary if you're already positioned to
where the ball might be going.
WILLIAM G. MORGAN –
IS THE INVENTOR OF
THE VOLLEYBALL GAME

•History has it that William

G. Morgan, who invented
the game of volleyball in
1895, came up with the
idea so that people who
found basketball's
'bumping' or 'jolting' too
strenuous could have an
alternative physical activity
to fall back on.
