HISTORY
Russia's story begins thousands of years ago when people first settled in
the land. King Rurik founded the first modern state in 862, which later
became the powerful Kievan Rus empire. But in the 13th century, the
Mongols invaded and destroyed the Kievan Rus.
In the 14th century, Moscow rose to power, eventually becoming the head
of the Eastern Roman Empire. Ivan IV became the first Tsar of Russia in
1547. Later, the Romanov dynasty took over in 1613 and ruled for a long
time. Under Peter the Great, Russia grew into a major power in Europe,
with its capital moving to St. Petersburg.
In the 19th century, Russian culture flourished, with famous artists and
writers gaining worldwide fame. But after World War I, people rebelled
against the Tsars, leading to the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. This gave
rise to the Soviet Union in 1922.
HISTORY
During World War II, Russia suffered greatly, losing over 20 million people.
The Cold War followed, with Russia and the United States competing in an
arms race. In 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed, and Russia became an
independent country.
