BOSCO VERTICALE BUILDING SERVICES TECHNOLOGY

HVAC System
The extensive plant life on the building’s facades acts as a
natural thermal insulator. While the foliage is fabulous, the
intelligent design of the HVAC cannot be overestimated
when considering the impact on carbon reduction at Bosco
Verticale.
The system offers at least 35% savings over a traditional
building performance of the heat pump.

Seasonal Adaptability of Bosco Verticale:

•Winter Benefits:
• Bare Branches: Allow sunlight to penetrate
interiors. And adds an extra layer of insulation,
minimizing heat loss.
• Large Windows: Enhance natural heating,
reducing heating requirements.
•Summer Benefits:
• Full Leaf Coverage: Provides shade to apartments
Ground Source Heat Pump System
• Use Ground source heat pumps to access the city aquifer.
• Balances cooling and heating demands to minimize
energy use.

Heating and Cooling Strategy:

The Heat Pump Technology uses two Climaveneta Integra units:
• 556 kW cooling and 589 kW heating capacity.
• Hot water for underfloor heating in north-facing rooms.
• Cooling for south-facing apartments via ducted fan coil units.

Enhanced Efficiency:
• Radiant floor cooled through a heat exchanger linked to the
aquifer.
• Air handling units are positioned at the top and bottom of the
larger tower to balance air flows.
• Cooling and Heating Optimization Efficient during spring and
autumn with simultaneous room needs.
• When the unit provides cooling for overheating rooms, the heat
Lighting System
Maximizing Natural Light:

• Large Windows and Glazing: The

building design incorporates expansive windows
and glazed areas, allowing abundant daylight to
penetrate living spaces, reducing the need for
artificial lighting during the day.

• Vegetation is arranged to provide shade without

excessively blocking natural light, balancing
comfort and illumination.
Outdoor Lighting: Illumination Concept
Lighting Solution:
• Product: High-efficiency mini-LED projector.
• Light Source: Neutral light at 4,000 K.
Installation:
• Positioned inside outdoor flower boxes.
• Small projectors strategically placed for
optimal effect.
Visual Impact:
• Illuminates the vertical forest with points of
light.
• Emphasizes the contours of trees and shrubs.
• Greatly enhances the overall aesthetic appeal
of the building.
Water Supply
The plants are watered by a dripline. The calculation of the
irrigation requirements for the planting was based on the
climatic conditions of the site and adjusted according to the
exposure of the facades and the distribution of vegetation.
The groundwater used for the heating and cooling systems
is recycled to meet 100% of the irrigation requirements.
