TEST PROCEDURE:
RANDOX KINETIC METHOD
Set up two test tubes(sample blank and
sample/test)
Aspirate 500 microliter of R1 into the two tubes
Aspirate 100 microliter of distilled water to
sample blank and 100 microliter of sample
serum/plasma to sample test.
Incubate for 30minutes
After 30 minutes, aspirate 500 microliter of R2 to
both testtubes
Stand at room temperature for 20 minutes,
Add 5mL of NaOH to all tubes and read
immediately with biochemistry analyser.

TEST RESULT:
Interpreting results of liver enzyme tests involves
understanding normal and abnormal ranges,
providing valuable insights into liver health. Normal
ranges can vary between laboratories, and
healthcare providers consider these variations when
assessing results. Himel, N. H. (2022).
ALT REFERENCE RANGE: 0 - 12 U/L
AST REFERENCE RANGE: 0 – 12 U/L

CONCLUSION
OR INFERENCE:
The AST:ALT ratio aids in pinpointing the origin of liver
inflammation. Elevated AST levels suggest alcohol-related
disease, cirrhosis, or non-hepatic causes like myopathy,
thyroid disease, or excessive exercise. On the other hand,
ALT-predominant elevations are typically associated with viral
hepatitis, fatty liver, autoimmune hepatitis, or liver toxicity from
medications or toxins. This ratio is valuable for a more focused
differential diagnosis in assessing liver health (Senior, J. R.
2012).
