INDUCTION OF LABOR

• Is the artificial stimulation of uterine contractions

before the spontaneous onset of true labor at

>28wks of gestation to achieve vaginal delivery.

• Depending on the indication, the induction is conducted

in an elective (planned) or emergency basis.


Generally Indication of Induction is:-

Maternal indication Fetal indication


-Preeclampsia, eclampsia, − Postterm pregnancy,
chronic hypertension, Diabetes Congenital abnormality, Rh
mellitus, chronic renal, cardiac isoimmunization , Previous
& pulmonary diseases. stillbirth, IUGR, IUFD-----
Obstetric − PROM,
Chorioamnionitis, Abruptio
placentae
oligohydramnios--------
