Warehouse Structure-Storage Type
 Storage Type is a group of warehouse bins similar characteristics
 Examples of commonly used storage types
 Fixed bin areas
 High rack areas
 Floor storage areas
 Bulk storage Areas
 Push back Racks
 Special storage areas like hazardous materials
 In addition, you can create storage type to control
 Interim bins for inbound and outbound movements
 Pick points
 Identification Points
 Staging Areas
 Work center
 Doors
5
 Yard bins (for inbound and outbound trails)
 Several parameters are assigned to the storage type level
 Placement and removal strategies
 Indicators for handling unit (HU) management
 Other Settings that control how the product is placed into, removed from or stored within the bins that are assigned to the storage type

Muralidhar Reddy Nara

Warehouse Structure-Storage Section
 Storage sections are subdivisions or subsections of storage types. Storage sections obviously represents a group of bins with the same attributes
 For example, in finished goods storage types, a business might want to have different sections for fast-moving and slow-moving goods. Thus, all fast-moving items are
stored in the bins classifying fast-moving section attributes.
 In certain cases, business might not need to subdivided the storage type in storage section. In this situation, only one section will be created in the system because its
mandatory to do so. The one section will represent the entire storage type in this case.

Muralidhar Reddy Nara

Warehouse Structure-Storage Bin
 Storage bin is the smallest physical space in the warehouse. In fact, entire warehouse can be summed upas a set of storage bin.
 It describes the location where goods in the warehouse are stored or can be stored.
 Standard storage types may have thousands of bins wherein the final storage takes place, where as storage type such as door, staging area group, work center, and so
on might have smaller or a limited number of bins.
 The storage bin represents the exact position of space within the warehouse means of a coordinates system. coordinates are maintained in the storage bin master.
 Storage Bins are the main control unit in EWM. Every item eventually is assigned to a storage bin. They are simply a location in warehouse that is within the storage
location. Each storage bin is assigned to a warehouse, storage type and section.
 Storage bin names in EWM are unique and may not be duplicated across storage types
 Example:

Muralidhar Reddy Nara

Warehouse Structure-Activity Areas

8
 Activity Area is a logical grouping of warehouse bins that focuses on activities to be performed on these bins.
 Activities might be put away, picking, physical inventory, replenishment, and so on.
 An activity may consist of a single bin or multiple bins spread across multiple storage types. Activity area is a concept introduced in SAP EWM, so it isn’t a part of WM.
 The use of activity areas in SAP EWM facilitates efficient picking and put away. This is related to the bin sorting functionality.
 Activity area is used to determine the warehouse order creation rule (WOCR). WOCR plays a key role in creating the warehouse order (WO) document.
 Activity area also plays a role in queue determination. Warehouse resource receive the assignments from these very queues.

Master Data
 Storage Bin Master
• As a warehouse might have thousands of bins, its unwise to create the bins one by one. With help of storage bin structure or upload file bins masters are created
in system.
 Warehouse Product Master
• All the products which all are part of warehouse (receiving, Dispatch, Replenish and so on) needs to extend to specific warehouse. With the help of upload files
warehouse product master are created in system
 Plant Vendor (Party Entitled To Dispose)
• Plant for which the stocks is procured
 Owner:
• Consignment vendor who has kept supplied the goods to plant. also, consignment vendor is a legal owner of the stock
 Supply Chain Unit:
 Supply chain units (SCUs) are elements that SAP EWM uses to model the organization's supply chain functions. These are physical or organizational units used
with one or more business characters within a logistical process. Supply chain unit is specific to plants for Rashideen business scenarios.
 The attributes of the Supply Chain Unit are:
• Geographical Data
9

• Communication Address

• Business Attributes

Inbound Process-Automatic Bin determination
• Dimensions (height of pallet vs height of storage bin
• PACI
• ABC
• Fixed bin

Height
In the deconsolidation process (WH-GR-02-03), the workers maintain the dimensions (length, width, and height)
of the handling units (HUs) they build. By that, the system can calculate on which bins the HU will fit. The bins are
sorted by height (ascending). Therefore, a bin with the smallest possible size will be found.
PACI
It must be defined on material level, that the products can only be stored in this or that area
ABC 16

In the area defined for the specific material, plus the HU size given by the deconsolidation worker, multiple bins
can still be found. This will be random, if not for the last criterion which is the ABC-classification
Fixed Bin
If a fixed bin exists for a product, the following two logics can apply:
- If there is no stock at all for the product in the warehouse, the fixed bin is determined.
- If multiple bins are found with the other criteria, the bin closest to that fixed bin is determined
(e. g. in the same bay as the fixed bin).
