Creating Power BI Dashboard

7
STEPS TO CREATE THE DASHBOARD
• Define Your Objectives: Clearly outline the goals of your dashboard, identifying key metrics
and insights you want to convey to ensure the dashboard serves its intended purpose effectively.

• Gather and Prepare Data: Collect relevant data from various sources, ensuring it is clean and
structured for analysis; utilize Power Query for data transformation to enhance accuracy and
usability.

• Design and Customize Visuals: Select appropriate visualizations that best represent your data,
customizing them for clarity and impact, while adhering to best practices in dashboard design for
optimal user experience.

8
DATA IMPORT AND TRANSFORMATION
• Connecting to Data Sources: Power BI allows users to connect to a variety of data sources,
including databases, cloud services, and flat files, enabling seamless integration of diverse
datasets for comprehensive analysis.

• Data Cleaning Techniques: Employing data cleaning techniques such as removing duplicates,
handling missing values, and standardizing formats ensures that the imported data is accurate
and reliable for effective reporting.

• Utilizing Power Query Editor: The Power Query Editor provides a user-friendly interface for
transforming data through operations like filtering, merging tables, and creating calculated
columns, empowering users to prepare their data efficiently before visualization.

9
10
DESIGNING VISUALS
• Choosing the Right Visuals: Select visuals that best represent the data story you want to
convey, considering factors such as data type, audience, and the insights you aim to highlight for
maximum impact.

• Customizing Visuals for Insights: Tailor visual elements like colors, labels, and tooltips to
enhance clarity and engagement, ensuring that each visual effectively communicates key
information and supports decision-making.

• Best Practices for Dashboard Design: Follow design principles such as simplicity, consistency,
and accessibility to create intuitive dashboards that facilitate user interaction and promote a
seamless experience in data exploration.

11
DYNAMIC DELIVERY

• Learn to infuse energy into

your delivery to leave a lasting
impression
• One of the goals of effective
communication is to motivate
your audience

12
PUBLISHING AND SHARING DASHBOARD
• Publishing to Power BI Service: Learn the step-by-step process to publish your dashboards to
the Power BI Service, ensuring that your insights are accessible to stakeholders and decision-
makers in real-time.

• Sharing Options and Permissions: Explore various sharing options available in Power BI,
including sharing with specific users, groups, or the entire organization, while managing
permissions to control access and maintain data security.

• Collaborating with Team Members: Understand how to leverage collaboration features in

Power BI, such as commenting on reports and co-authoring dashboards, to enhance teamwork
and drive collective insights across your organization.
