Challenge 1 “ The job”
The Job: Compete to win! As a Co2 dragster racer, you are challenged to
design a dragster that meets competition specifications and is best designed
to meet the variety of forces that affect motion and velocity when racing at
fast speeds. The Co2 dragster with the fastest design takes the title of
champion. Just how fast do Co2 dragsters travel? Dragsters can race at
speeds over 70 MPH, and dragsters can run the track in under 1 second. As
you design your dragster, weight, wind drag, and impact are all factors that
will influence dragster performance. Testing and refining your design before
cutting your part is critical to increasing your chance for success. You have
just one go at cutting your blank, and it takes a while to cut smooth surfaces.
Use Fusion 360 CAD/CAM software to design and to test as many factors as
possible, improving your design for the highest chances for success.

Challenge 2 “ Make it your own”
Make it your own: Create a manual 4th axis
fixture. Work as team in your shop to design
and create a manual 4th axis fixture that indexes
every 90 degrees, allowing you and your shop
mates to cut and machine all four sides of your
car if necessary.

Engraved sign: Challenge 3 “Be an expert”
Be an Expert: To further your
skills, explore one or more of
the assignments created for
this project. It’s a great
opportunity to apply and refine
your skills and work towards
becoming industry certified as
an Autodesk Fusion 360™
Certified User.

Sustainable design: Green Materials Selection
Green Materials Basics
When considering the
environmental properties of
materials, look for materials that
are abundant, non-toxic, have low
embodied energy, and meet or
exceed regulations.
You also need to ensure that the
material has the right physical
properties to get the job done
and that it won’t drive up costs.

CAM: toolpath generation 2D/3D mill
The following topics covered in step-by-step videos will allow you to
program the part to produce the NC code:
• Stock Set-up
• Tool Library
• Toolpaths
• Multiple Set-ups
• Simulating Toolpaths
• Set-up Sheets
• Post Processing NC code

Manufacturing best practice
Lecture resource providing manufacturing knowledge necessary to
successfully program the part, set-up the machine, and produce the
assembly wallet.
• Complete a process plan to manufacture the Wallet.
• Calculate spindle RPM for the cuttings tools.
• Calculate cutting tool feed rate for cutting the part.

how to set a CNC mill for manufacture:
• Installing a fixture
• Indicating a fixture
• Setting work offsets
• Setting height offsets
• Loading the sign NC program
• Dry running the sign NC program
• Running the sign NC program
