SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT
GOALS
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted
by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a
shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and
the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an
urgent call for action by all countries - developed and
developing - in a global partnership.
The SDGs build In June 1992, at the Earth Summit

178 countries adopted Agenda 21

Summit in September 2000 at UN
Headquarters in New York.

the UN multilateralism and international policy

major agreements:

• Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (March 2015)

• Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development (July 2015)
• Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
with its 17 SDGs was adopted at the UN Sustainable Development
Summit in New York in September 2015.
• Paris Agreement on Climate Change (December 2015)
• Now, the annual High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development
serves as the central UN platform for the follow-up and review of the
SDGs.
SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to

transform our world. They are call to action to
end poverty and inequality, protect the planet,
and ensure that all people enjoy health, justice,
and prosperity.
SIGNIFICANCE OF SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT

It allows us to preserve the environment, project

biodiversity, mitigate climate change, eradicate poverty,
promote social inclusivity, and foster long-term economic
growth. The earth has enough resources to meet our
present and future needs for development if we use them
economically.
NO POVERTY
SDG aims to end poverty in all forms
everywhere. its objectives include ensuring that
the entire population and especially the poorest
and most vulnerable have equal rights to
economic resources, access to basic services,
property and land control, natural resources and
new techniques.
ZERO HUNGER
End hunger, achieve food security and
improved nutrition and promote sustainable
agriculture.

Goal 2 seek sustainable solutions to end

hunger in all its forms by 2030 and to
achieve food security. The aims to ensure
that everyone everywhere has enough good-
quality food to lead a healthy life.
GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-
BEING
This goal aims to ensure healthy lives
and promote well-being for all at all
ages.

To achieve the targets of SDG 3, there

are several areas of focus within the field
of Social Work:

1. Access to health care

2. Mental Health support
3. Health education and promotion
QUALITY EDUCATION
Ensure inclusive and equitable quality
education and promote lifelong learning
opportunities for all.
Education is the key that will allow many
other SDGs to be achieved.
Education is the process that gives people
access to knowledge.
GENDER
Achieve gender equality and
EQUALITY
empower all women and girls.
Gender equality is not only a
fundamental human right, but a
necessary foundation for a peaceful,
prosperous and sustainable world.
There has been progress over the
last decades, but the world is not
track to achieve gender equality by
2030.
CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
Ensure availability and sustainable
management of water and sanitation for
all.
Access to water, sanitation and hygiene is
a human right. Yet 2.3 billion people live in
water-stressed countries.
Water scarcity affects more than 40
percent of the world population and is
projected to increase with the rise of global
temperatures as a result of climate
change.
AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN
ENERGY
Ensure access to affordable,
sustainable and modern energy for all
reliable

Our current reliance on fossils fuels is

unsustainable and harmful to the planet,
which is why we have to change the way we
produce and consume energy. Implementing
renewable energy as new energy solutions as
a fast as possible to counter climate change,
and one of the biggest threats to our own
survival.
DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC
GROWTH
Promote sustained, inclusive
and sustainable economic
growth, full and productive
employment and decent work
for all.
INDUSTY, INNOVATION AND
INFRASTRUCTURE

Build resilient infrastructure, promote

inclusive and sustainable
industrialization and foster innovation.
REDUCED INEQUALITIES
Reducing Inequalities is a core principle of the
social work profession. It refers to the efforts
and actions taken to address disparities and
promote fairness in society. This includes
addressing social, economic, and political
inequalities that exist among individuals and
groups.
To address these inequalities, SDG 10
encourages governments and organizations to
take action such as:
1. Promoting equal opportunities
2. Eliminating discrimination
3. Ensuring fair wages and working conditions
SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND
COMMUNITIES
Make cities and human settlements
inclusive, safe, resilient and
sustainable

Targets
1. Safe and Affordable housing
2. Affordable and sustainable,
accessible and sustainable
Transport system.
RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND
PRODUCTION
Goal 12 is about ensuring sustainable
consumption and production patterns, which is
key to sustain the livelihoods of current and
future generations.
Unsustainable patterns of consumption and
production are root causes of the triple
planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity
loss and pollution. These crises, and related
environmental degradation, threaten human
well-being and achievement of the Sustainable
Development Goals.
CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is any policy, measure or
program that reduces greenhouse gases, builds
resilience to climate change or supports a
finances those goals.

Example: Promotion of renewable energy

sources such as solar and wind power to
transition away from fossil fuels and reduce
carbon emissions.
LIFE BELOW
WATER
Conserve and sustainability use the oceans, seas,
and marine resources for sustainable
development.
Healthy oceans and seas are essential to human
existence and life on Earth. They cover 70 per
cent of the planet and provide food, energy and
water. The ocean absorbs around one quarter of
the world’s annual carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions, thereby mitigating climate change and
alleviating its impacts.
LIFE ON
LAND
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use
of terrestrial ecosystem, sustainability
manage forests combat desertification, and
half and reverse land degradation and half
biodiversity loss.
PEACE, JUSTICE AND STRONG
INSTITUTIONS
Goal 16 is about promoting peaceful and
inclusive societies, providing access to
justice for all and building effective,
accountable and inclusive institutions at
all levels. People everywhere should be
free of fear from all forms of violence and
feel safe as they go about their lives
whatever their ethnicity, faith or sexual
orientation.
PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE
GOALS
Goal 17 is about revitalizing the global
partnership for sustainable development.
The 2030 Agenda is universal and calls
for action by all countries – developed
and developing – to ensure no one is left
behind. It requires partnerships between
governments, the private sector, and
civil society. The Sustainable
Development Goals can only be realized
with a strong commitment to global
partnership and cooperation.
