INTRODUCTION AND
ASSUMPTIONS
what is
Art?
ART
•Etymology: The word “art” is derived from the
Latin ars, which originally meant “skill” or “craft.”
These meanings are still primary in other English
words derived from ars, such as “artifact” (a thing
made by human skill) and “artisan” (a person
skilled at making things).

• FORMALIST: Art is the arrangement of lines,

colors, shape,and other aesthethic elements.

• EXPRESSION: Art is the expression of ideas

and emotions through a physical medium, like
painting, sculpture, film, dance, writing,
photography, or theatre. If you love the
creative process, maybe you'll devote your life
to art.
WHAT ART IS?
• Art is something that is perennially
around us.
• Some people have deny having to
do with arts. but it is indisputable
that life presents us many forms of
and oppurtunities for communion
with arts.
• Misconception in arts: An art/artist
is not good because it is old, but
old because it is good.
DEVELOPMENT OF ART
• The word art comes from the ancient latin
ars which means a craft or specialized
form of skills.
• Ars in Medieval latin came to mean
somthing different. it means any special
form of book- learning such as grammar or,
logic, magicor astrology.
• During 17th century when the problem and
and idea of aesthetics, the study of beauty
began to unfold distincly from the notion of
technical workmanship.
• 18th century- today
contemporary fine art is more
than just painting and is defined
by 7 fine art disciplines:
painting, sculpture, architecture,
poetry, music, literature, and
dance.
• During 18th century when the
word has evolved to
distinguished between the fine
arts and the useful arts.
ART AND ARTIST PERSPECTIVES

Art is a way of recognizing onself,

which is why it will always be
modern. louise Bourgeous.

ultimately art is trying to see

things that other people don’t see.
Trevor Paglen

even the act of cutting potato can

be a work of art if it is a conscious
art. Josep Bueys
ART IMPORTANCE TO OUR LIFE
It’s a language- Art speaks its own language whether its a painting,
sculpture, dance routine or your favorite song. Art is able to say things
that words sometimes can’t.

It’s an international language that anyone from anywhere can understand

and be inspired by.

Art tells a story- Art is important because it’s a way of documenting and
preserving our history.
Historic art tells a story about society and how our cultures were. Giving
us insight and different perspectives.

Therapeutic- Art is a great way to calm yourself and decrease stress

levels.
If you make regular time in your schedule for creativity, you’ll instantly
start to see results in how you feel.

Increases creativity
Art and creativity go hand in hand with one another.
The more you work on your art the more creative you’ll get.

Also, looking at art and exposing yourself to other creative mediums will
inspire more ideas, and have you thinking differently.
