India’s population
crossing 1.4 billion in 2021. So balance between
the optimum population growth and a health of
nation is far to be achieved. The rising population
need for increased agricultural production, irrigated
agriculture has been important source to increase
agricultural production “IOT based smart irrigation
system” is for to create an IOT base automated
irrigation mechanism which turns the pumping
motor ON and OFF pass command through IOT
platform.

HARDWARE COMPONENTS
1. Arduino UNO
2. Soil Moisture Sensor
3. DTH11 Sensor
4. Relay
5. Wi-Fi Module ESP8266

SOFTWARE COMPONENTS
1. Arduino.CC
HARDWARE COMPONENTS
1.Arduino:
It is an open-source platform based on easy-to-use hardware
and
software
Hardware:- Arduino
Arduino board designs use a variety of
microprocessors and controllers in
Systems.
1) To read input:- light on a sensor
2) To twitter message:- turn it into an
output-activating a motor
3) Turning on an LED
2. Soil moisture sensor:
Used to measure water , content of soil
Copper electrodes are used to sense the moisture
Content of soil.

3. Relay :
Relay is a magnetic switch used to ON and OFF a
Motor based on Arduino command.

4. DTH11 :
DTH11 is a Digital and Humidity sensor which senses
the temperature and humidity in the environment.
5. Wi-Fi ESP8266 :
• It can easily fetch data and upload it to the internet making IOT
as easy as possible .
• It can also fetch data from internet using Application
programming interface (API), hence your project access any
Information that is available in the internet, thus making it
smarter.
• Another exciting features of this module is that it can be
programmed using the Arduino IDE which makes it a lot more
user friendly
SOFTWARE COMPONENT

1.Arduino (IDE = Integrated Development Environment)

 This connects Arduino hardware to upload program and communicate with

them.
 The latest version of this Arduino IDE is version 1.0
 Use : Check Conditions
 Writing Sketches : Programs written using
Arduino Software (IDE) are called sketches.
 Upload: Compiles your code uploads it to
the configure board.
 New : Create a new sketch.
 Serial Monitor : File, Edit, Sketch, Tools,
Help are the five commands in carry out the work .
Applications :
 Smart irrigation plays an important role in making agriculture
processes effective and efficient. And it helps farmers to prevent
water wastage during irrigation.
 These smart irrigation techniques enhance the overall quality and
quantity of crops by : Irrigation crops as per schedule
 The smart irrigation system in an IOT based device which is
capable of automating the irrigation process by analyzing the
moisture of soil and the climate condition (like raining). Also the
data of sensors will be displayed in graphical form on BOLT cloud
page.
RESEARCH PAPER [ 29TH NOVEMBER 2022]
Author : B.V.Ashwini

• The automated irrigation system implemented

was found to be feasible and cost effective for
optimizing water resources for Agri-culture
production.
• This irrigation system allows cultivation in places
with water scarcity thereby improving
sustainability.
• The irrigation system helps the farmer by
making his work smarter.
• As the demand for water increases, along with
the need to protect aquatic habitats, water
conservation practices for irrigation need to be
effective and affordable.
• As multiple sensors are used water can be provided
only to the required area of land.
• This system reduces the water consumption to
greater extent. It needs minimal maintenance.
• The power consumption has been reduced very
much. The crop productivity increases and the wast-
age of crops are very much reduced.
• The extension work is to make user interface much
simpler by just using SMS messages for notifications
and to operate the switches
Challenges :

 Complexity:
The IOT is a diverse and complex network.
 Privacy / Security
 Lesser Employment of Manual Staff or unskilled
workers
 Equipment is costlier .
 Awareness of Indian farmer for this technology .
Conclusion

 We conclude that this system is easy to implement

and time, money and manpower saving solution for
irrigation fields.

 A farmer should visualize his agricultural land’s

moisture content from time to time and water level
of source is sufficient or not. IOT based smart
displays the value of the sensors continuously in
smart phone or on computer’s web page and farmer
can operate them anytime from and anywhere
