PUPPET’S
◦ Puppet and puppetry are one of the oldest media for disseminating knowledge and developing
creativity. A puppet is a movable inanimate object or figure, controlled by strings, rods, or by
placing one's hand inside its body. These are representative of real objects (human or animal)
dressed as a character, manipulated by a puppeteer. Puppetry is a performance involves
manipulation of puppets. Puppeteer is a skilled performer who dramatizes puppetry acts,
controls movements of a puppet by hand movements, strings, or sticks of puppets
◦ Puppet is an inexpensive teaching aid to engage students in creative activities and used in a variety of
formal teaching and nonformal teaching situations. These are effective ways of initiating communication,
means of expressing thoughts, fear, and feelings. The puppets are made up of wood, cork, cloth or
plastic, and clay. Make a hole for a finger, paint a face for puppet, use artificial hair of cotton, or animal
wool.
◦ The puppets should be simple as per level of students. The script should be within emotional limit avoid
too much fear, excitement, and pleasure. Idea, acting and music should be in coordination. Maintain
continuity while performing stage craft.
TYPES OF PUPPETS
◦ HAND PUPPETS: These are glove puppets or guignols, worn over hand, commonly in
index finger representing neck and thumb and middle finger perform as puppet arms
Stick/rod puppets: These puppets are sticks supported one for the body and two for the
hands
◦ SHADOW PUPPETS: In shadow puppets, the performer cast shadows with a projector
or a very bright light from behind on a white cloth screen. These are of colored plastic or
other translucent material through which light can pass
◦ FINGER PUPPETS: In finger puppets, the performer uses each finger for each
character. These types of puppets do not have hands and not moving at all-each char

◦ • MARIONETTE OR STRING OPERATED PUPPETS: These puppets are
suspended and controlled by strings. The strings are attached to some parts of the body of
puppets and controlled by two hands of the performer. They are cute in appear- acne and look
like dolls moving around a particular part of the stage.
◦ VENTRILOQUIST' DUMMY: A ventriloquist is a person who keep a puppeteer
"dummy" on knees, arm, table, or chair to stagecraft and supports it with a hand from back to
control. She/he changes her/his voice to appear it that the voice is coming from dummy and
talking with each other. Puppeteer dummies are big as half of a regular adult. acter depicted by
bending the fingers of other characters.
PURPOSES
◦ • To promote social and motor skills, creativity and reflective learning
◦ • To develop feeling of security and confidence, and self-control
◦ • To understand subject content by improving imagination
TEACHING THROUGH PUPPETS
◦ Select a topic, know the level of students. Dramatize the topic/story in dialogue form and
select an appropriate puppet and characters of the story/topic. Practice before the actual
performance. For conversation, select two students/performers
ADVANTAGES
• Creates interest and draws the attention and comprehension of students and motivate them.
• Develops creativity, reflective, cognitive, and social learning
• Provides emotional release to students and help them to gain confidence.
• Helps to develop dramatic expression and voice modulation.
• The students learn and play in a team.
LIMITATIONS
◦ The dramatization of an act requires skill. It needs group cooperation and coordination. Time
and effort to prepare puppets.

◦ Is a model of the earth
◦ Gives an accurate picture of the earth surface
◦ Shows the location of place on the smaller scale
GLOBLES
◦ A globe is a model of the earth
◦ Given as accurate picture of the earth
◦ shows the location of places on the smaller scales
Uses of globes
◦ It helps to see the shape of the earth as a whole and to know its unique features
◦ Globes helps in finding places on the earth using latitudes and longitudes
◦ It also helps in navigation route finding date calculation
TYPES OF GLOBES
◦ There are three types of globes
◦ 1)Big size globes : There cannot be carried easily
◦ 2)small pocket globes
◦ 3)balloon like globes .they can be inflated ,are handy and can be carried with ease.
Features of globes
◦ Globes is not fixed and can be rotated in the same fashion as a topspin or a potters wheel is rotated
◦ On the globes , countries ,continents and oceans are shown in their correct size
◦ A needle is fixed through the globe in a tilted manner, which is called its axis
◦ The north most point of the earth is called the north pole
◦ The south most point of the earth is called the south pole
◦ An imaginary line running through the center of the earth and joining the north and south pole is
called the axis of rotation
◦ An imaginary line running thought the center of the earth and dividing it into two equal parts is
called the equator
◦ The are south of the equator is called the southern hemisphere
Advantages of globes
◦ 1)A globe shows the accurate distribution of continents and oceans.
◦ 2)Globe gives an idea of the tilt of the Earth's axis.
◦ 3)Some globes represent physical features like mountains, rivers and deserts by showing elevations and
depressions.
Disadvantages of globes
• Difficult to hold on hands or carry.
• Does not help to study the specific part of the Earth.
• It does not show towns, cities, district, roads, railways etc.
