What is “Note Making”?
* A short written record of facts to aid the memory.
* To record a speech or dictation while listening to it or
after reading a book, magazine or an article.
* A mean to capture the key ideas of a given passage in
an easily readable, logically structured format.
Purpose of Note Making:
* Knowledge is vast and unlimited but our memory
is limited. We can’t remember all the information all
the time. With the help of it, one can…
1. Revise the content
2. Write a report or any composition
3. Plan a lecture
4. Reconstruct the story
5. Keep lot of information handy
6. Make presentation
Characteristics of Note making:
1. Short and compact
2. Includes complete information
3. Logical
4. Understandable
5. Headings and sub headings
6. Use of abbreviations and symbols
7. Numbering and indentation
8. Incomplete sentences
HEADING: It reflects main theme
SUB HEADING: Points out how it has been developed.
ABBREVIATIONS & SYMBOLS : Used for precision and
economy of the words
UNIVERSAL SYMBOLS: MATHEMATICAL SYMBOLS:
&= and > =greater than
Viz. = namely @ = at the rate of
i.e. =that is = = equal to
% = percentage ® = before

ABBREVIATIONS:
* There are three types of Abbreviations :
1. Acronyms-Capital initial letters-
CBSE, CM, GPO etc..
2. Contractions- First few letters of the word-
Capt. = Captain, Co. = Company etc…
3. Short Forms- First few and last few letters-
Dr. =Doctor, Ltd. = Limited, Govt. = government
