OBJECTIVES:

Define the word failure.

Differentiate the three types of people in the
world.
Identify ways on how to profit from failure.
“ A man is not
defeated by his
opponents but by
himself.”
Jan Christian Smuts
Prime Minister of South Africa
1870 - 1950
FAILURE
is defined as a lack of success or the inability
to meet an expectation. The problem is that
we can read too much into failure. Too often,
we tie it to our sense of self-worth, self-
esteem, and self-acceptance. The expectation
we fail to meet is often our own, or one that
we've created in our own head.
THREE TYPES OF PEOPLE
1. The wills - accomplish everything

2. The won’ts - oppose everything

3. The can’ts - fail at everything

FOUR THINGS THAT PULL PEOPLE
IN THE CAN’T GROUP
1.Expecting Failure
- Usually, the people who keep failing are the ones
who expect to.
2.Personalizing Failure
- People cannot perform in a way inconsistent with
the way they see themselves.
3. Refusing to Take a Risk
4. Letting Failure Defeat Them
HOW TO PROFIT FROM FAILURE

When you have the right attitude, you can actually

use failure to your advantage and profit from it.

1.CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE

- People who succeed develop an attitude of
tenacity. They refuse to quit, and they are determined
not to let failure to defeat them.
2. CHANGE YOUR VOCABULARY
3. PAY ATTENTION TO THE ODDS
- You may feel that the odds are stacked against you in
life. Every person who has ever achieved something
significant had to overcome the odds.
4. LET FAILURE POINT YOU TO SUCCESS
5. HOLD ON TO YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR
- One of the best things you can do for yourself when
you fail is to learn to laugh. There isn’t a person alive who
wouldn’t benefit from a good laugh, especially when he’s
done something really stupid.
6. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKE
7. DON’T LOSE YOUR PERSPECTIVE
- Failure is just like success – it’s a day-to-day
process, not a someplace you arrive one day. It’s how you
deal with life along the way.
8. DON’T BECOME TOO FAMILIAR WITH FAILURE
9. MAKE FAILURE A GAUGE FOR GROWTH
10. NEVER GIVE UP
“Failure doesn’t mean you’ll never succeed. It just
means it will take longer.”

MY TAKE-AWAY/INSIGHTS
Failure is a natural and inevitable part of life, and it can
provide valuable opportunities for growth, learning, and
resilience. Failure is not the opposite of success; it's a part of the
journey toward success. Each failure brings with it lessons and
insights that can contribute to personal and professional
development. It's an opportunity to learn what works and what
doesn’t. It's crucial to remember that failure is not a reflection of
one's worth or potential. Instead, it is a stepping stone toward
growth and achievement. Embracing failure with a positive
mindset and a willingness to learn can turn what might initially
seem like a setback into a powerful catalyst for personal and
professional advancement.
