Fighting Temptation
Abounding in Obedience, in Joy
P2C Bible Study on temptations
Who is the one doing the tempting?
The flesh or satan?
• God created our bodies to seek pleasure. We pursue pleasure because our
spiritual and physical anatomy requires it.
• The fall of humanity lead to a distorted image of pleasure that is contrary to
God’s original plan.
• Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Does God give us
temptations?
• Why does God allow us to go through temptation?
Some Bible verses
1) But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.
Galatians 5:16
2) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7
3) Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for
someone to devour.
What is the purpose of temptation?
• Different types of temptation: Pleasurable and Miserable
• Break us
• Strengthen us
• Show us how desperately we need God
• Lead us to repentance
• Put us to the test (affirmation of our loyalty)
• Suffering like Christ (Hebrews 2:18)
What Strategies does Satan use?
How do we counter them?
• Makes you question your loyalty to God
• Perverts God’s Word
• Evaporates your faith
• Making you consider the pleasure of sin
• Presenting you with a partial, empty promise

Steps to victory
Focusing on promises and walking in the Spirit
“Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement
of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.”
God’s reciprocating promises
- “Return to me and I will return to you, declares the LORD Almighty,”
- “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”
- “If you seek him, he will be found by you”
- “And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure”.
