What is Ohm’s Law?
Ohm’s Law, named after Mr. Georg Ohm, mathematician and
physicist, defines the relationship between voltage, current and
resistance. These basic electrical units apply to direct current, or
alternating current.
Voltage (V)
• is measured in volts
(V)
Resistance (R)
• is measured in ohms( )
Current (I):
• is a measured in amperes (A)
Parts of a Circuit
• Source – This supplies the electrical energy. Batteries, solar cells and
generators are sources of electric energy.
2. Path – This serves as a passageway of electric energy. Wire is the basic
conducting path in a simple circuit. It connects the source and the load.
Parts of a Circuit
3. Load – This converts electric energy to other forms of energy. Resistors,
lightbulbs, and home appliances are some examples of load.
4. Control – This serves as the means of controlling the amount of current
that flows in the entire circuit. Ex. Switches and circuit breakers which
regulate the flow of charge.
The formula in getting the Voltage is,
V= I x R
The formula in getting Resistance is,
R= V/I
The formula in getting Current is,
I=V/R
What is the voltage of a circuit if the
current passing through it is 1.50 A and the
total resistance is 23 Ω
I = 1.50 A V=IR
R= 23 Ω V= (1.50A) (23 Ω)
V =? V= 34.5 V
What is the total resistance in a circuit
whose voltage is 15 V and the current
flowing through it is 3.0 A?
V= 15 V R= V/I
I= 3.0 A R= 15V / 3.0 A
R= ? R= 5Ω
What is the current produced by a
voltage of 240 V through a resistance
of 0.2 Ω?
V= 240 V I= V/R
R= 0.2 Ω I= 240V /
I=? 0.2Ω
I=1200A
1. What is the voltage if a
resistance of 25 Ω produces a
current of 250 amperes?
R= 25Ω
I= 250 A
V=?
What is the current
produced by a 9-V battery
flowing through a
resistance of 200 Ω?
L
V= 9 V
R= 200 Ω
I=?
What resistance would produce
a current of 200 amps with a
voltage of 2,000 V?
L
I= 200 A
V= 2,000 V
R=?
Types of Circuits
• Series Circuit
• Parallel Circuit
Series Circuit
is circuit where the bulb are
connected in one path.
If one of the bulb is busted, the
remaining light bulb will not
light up anymore
