FIRE WATCH RESPONSIBILITIES
Stop work if conditions become hazardous
Monitor flammable and combustible materials
Know area, know hazards, know how to call for help
Notify operations supervisor if work stopped
Put out fire if possible
Make sure fire blanket not contaminated with flammable material
Stop work if leaving area unless another fire watch available
Ensure all hot work is tented or protected by fire blanket so that
sparks can’t trave

FIRE WATCH RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor flammable and combustibles:
spark containment and for any abnormal event.
Being familiar with the area and potential hazards and
knowing how to obtain assistance in an emergency.
Stop the hot work if a fire (or unsafe situation) is
observed, inform operations supervisor and initiate
appropriate.
Monitors the hot work area for changing conditions and
watches for fires, and extinguishes them if possible.

FIRE WATCH RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure that the area is covered with fire blanket and all
openings in nearby area to control sparks and slags. f.
Whenever fire watch leave the activity area, the job shall
be stopped or endorse to another qualified fire watch. g.
Fire watch shall stay at hot work location at least 30 min.
after completion of the work and/or Where there is any
possibility fires, maintaining area during lunch, all breaks,
and for at least one-half hour after completion of the hot
work activity.

High Risk Areas–Areas containing hazardous Areas as
defined by area classification and areas where
potential ignition sources must be controlled. Lower
Risk Areas–Areas not classified as High Risk but
where potential ignition sources must still be
controlled. Exempt Areas–Areas where Hot work
activities are permitted without a Hot Work Permit

HOT WORK -CLOSURE
Before Hot Work Permit closure, the Receiver must ensure
that:
The Hot Work Permit Issuer has been informed that the requirement for
the Hot Work Permit has ended.
All persons associated with the hot work activity at the work site have
withdrawn.
All tools and equipment have been removed.
Housekeeping has been performed.
The area has been monitored by the Fire Watch for the period defined in
the permit to ensure the area is safe.
