My presentation
Ethical issues concerning the debate between ethics
of care and ethics of justice.
Ethics is a branch of philosophy
that is concerned with the
rightness and wrongness of
human actions.
And in studying it, it aims at
clarifying moral principles, codes,
conduct of which ethics of justice
and care are not exempted.
Ethics of care, which is also known as care ethics says it's okay to feel emotions like care and
compassion when making moral decisions. It thinks that emotions can actually help us make
good choices.
It consists of empathy, compassion and contextual moral judgement, responsibilities and
relationships
Ethics of Justice then refers to the branch of ethics that is concerned with the concepts of
fairness, equality, and the righting of wrongs within a society. It has to do with impartiality, rules
and regulations.
There has been this debate over these two
topics highlighting the challenge of
whether to apply one of them to ethical
dilemmas.
And so ethics of justice and care are vital
for the proper functioning of the society,
hence, they should be complementary
and not competitive. The goal should be
balancing each other.
Based on my research, there's always this sense of
masculinity given to justice while ethics of care is
deemed feminine.
Hence the importance of striking a balance in order to
eradicate this idea of being gender biased.
