Giving Instruction
A nurse must be able to identify the health condition of a
patient. Before a thorough treatment is carried out, a
nurse must make a record of the disease. Accordingly,
the recording skill demands a full knowledge of
identifying in which part of the body the illness is.
Giving Instruction
In this unit you will study some useful
expressions how to ask your patient
to do something.
** There are three ways of giving
instruction :
1. Command
2. Prohibition
3. More polite Instruction
COMMAND
Command is usually used to make other
people do something. When asking other
people to do something, it usually uses
imperative form.
Command Structure
Verb1 + Complement
Examples :
• “Raise your hand!”
• “Please, follow my instructions!”
• “Take a deep breath, please”
Prohibition Structure
Don’t + Verb1 + Complement
Examples :
Don’t eat spicy food
Don’t drink alcohol
