Self-Concept
Self-concept refers to your awareness of yourself. It
is a general term used to refer on how you think about
yourself through evaluation and perception.
Concept of Oneself according to Z. Hereford
(ND)
To be aware of your strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes;
To observe and be aware of your moods, reactions, and responses to what
is happening around you;
To become aware of how these moods and emotions affect your state of
means;
To examine how you interact with others; and
To observe how environment affects you.
Moods are different from emotions in three main respects.
First, moods tend to be much more long-lasting, going for hours or
days, whereas an emotion may only last minutes.
Second, emotions are about something specific, such as a person or
situation, but moods are much more diffuse with no identifiable object.
A mood is a general feeling, not a reaction to a particular situation.
Third, moods are not as intense as emotions, which can be strong
feelings such as exhilaration, terror, or despair. In contrast, you might
not be consciously aware that you are in a good or bad mood until you
reflect on your response to situations.
Moods differ from emotions because they lack stimuli and have no
clear starting point.
For example, insults can trigger
A response is a clearly defined, measurable unit of behavior discussed in terms
of its result (e.g., pressing a lever, indicating yes vs. no on a survey item) or its
physical characteristics (e.g., raising an arm).
According to the American Psychological Association (APA), emotion
is defined as “a complex reaction pattern, involving experiential,
behavioral and physiological elements.”
Emotions are how individuals deal with matters or situations they
find personally significant.
In order to have a positive self-concept you
must:
• Know yourself
• Love yourself
• Be True to yourself
Two categories of self-concept
Actual self
Ideal self
Actual self
It
is built on self-knowledge which is derived from
social interactions that provide insights into how
others react to you.
Self-image
Ideal self
How we want to be.
It
is an idealized image that we have developed overtime,
based on what we have learned and experienced.

Physiological
Physiology is the science of life. It is the branch of
biology that aims to understand the mechanisms of living
things, from the basis of cell function at the ionic and
molecular level to the integrated behavior of the whole
body and the influence of the external environment.
Cognitive
Cognitivepsychology is defined as the study of
individual-level mental processes such as information
processing, attention, language use, memory,
perception, problem solving, decision-making, and
thinking (Gerrig and Zimbardo 2002).
Psychological
physiological psychology (also
known as biological psychology) is
the study of the physiological bases
of behavior. It differs from many
disciplines of neuroscience, the
study of the nervous system, in its
emphasis on behavior.
Spiritual
it's primarily about a belief in God and active participation in
organized religion. For others, it's about non-religious experiences
that help them get in touch with their spiritual selves through quiet
reflection, time in nature, private prayer, yoga, or meditation
Social
Socialpsychology is the study of your mind and behavior
with other people. Social psychology looks at your
personality, interpersonal relationships and group behavior.
Developing an action plan can help you
turn your vision into reality, and increase
efficiency and accountability within an
organization.
An ActionPlan is a list
of tasks that you need
to do to complete a
simple project or
objective
In the New Testament (Luke
2:52)
The Bible says, “Jesus increased in
wisdom and stature, and in favor with God
and man.” if Jesus felt the need to develop
Himself mentally, physically, spiritually,
and socially, how much more for us?
