Soot Blowing System
Prepared by: Ahsan Alam (Unit Controller)
Introduction
Soot Blowing System at LEPCL can be divided into
three types:
The retractable steam soot blowers.
The water lance blowers
The RAPH soot blowers
Rack Soot Blowing
They are present at upper boiler areas, entering into the boiler from
left and right side walls.
Their function is to clean Boiler tubes, SH1, SH2 and SH3, RH1 and
RH2 as well as ECO1 and ECO2.
Total 84 soot blowers are installed:
42 on the left-side wall
42 on the right-side wall.
Rack Soot Blower Types
Rack Soot Blowers can be further divided into two
types:
Semi retractable Soot blower:
The upper levels are equipped with semi retractable
blower lances (for ECO 1 and ECO2, RH1).
Long retractable Soot Blowers:
The four levels within higher flue gas temperatures (for
RH2, SH1, SH2 and SH3) are equipped with long
retractable blowers.
Water Lances
The 12 water lance soot blowers are arranged around the furnace
They are present at following three levels at boiler:
21 m
45 m
69 m
Four Water lances are present at each level, one at each furnace wall
(3 X 4 = 12)
Water Lances Water Supply
The water for the blowers is provided through
Service Water System.
Two booster pumps 10HCC30AN001/002 are
provided at boiler 0m to increase the pressure.
Downstream the pumps the flow of water is
measured, and the water is distributed to the
headers of the three blower levels.
RAPH
ForRAPH soot blowing two soot blowers are provided
at each RAPH.
They are arranged in radial travelling direction to the
rotor,
One is present at cold end and other one is at hot end of
the RAPH.
The recommended blowing cycle set-up at normal
operation condition is to operate once every 8-hour
shift. (3 times/day)
RAPH Soot blowers
steam Sources
RAPH Soot blowers steam has two sources:
Auxiliary steam
RH1 inlet header
Auxiliary steam source is used mainly in unit
startup, shutdown and if boiler soot blower main
steam source does not meet the conditions for the
supply of steam in the normal operation of the unit
auxiliary steam source is used.
Rack Soot Blowing Start
Procedure
Check unit load > 70% BMCR (For retractable and
semi-retractable).
Open both motor driven outlet drain valves of
Blower Steam piping System.
Open steam source inlet valve.
Open control valve of Steam blowing piping
system adjust steam pressure to 2.6 MPA
Rack Soot Blowing
Procedure
Close outlets drain valve when drain temperature >
240°C for Semi retractable and RAPH and >220
°C for Retractable Soot blower.
Rack Soot blowing can now be started.
On auto mode one soot blower from both right and
left side run in parallel.
Sealing Air Fan
Two Sealing air fans (10HCB20AP001/002) are
provided.
Theirpurpose is to cool and seal of Rack soot
blowers lances when they are not in operation.
