EFFECTIV

E
TEACHING
2 TIMOTHY
2:15
1.0 OBJECTIVES
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE
TRAINEES SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE TO
THE CHILDREN ON ANY BIBLICAL
LESSON 2 Timothy 3:16-17
2.0 DEFINITION OF
TERMS

What is Effective Teaching?

It is a process of passing on information in other

to achieve a pre-defined goal.

Effective teaching in the children’s church is the

process of communicating biblical truths to the
children in a manner in which they can grasp the
truths being communicated and thereby
experience spiritual growth.
Two important points from the definition:

1. We are communicating biblical truths, not just stories,

neither are we entertaining.
2. The evidence of our effectiveness
is the resulting understanding and
spiritual growth in the lives of the
children.
HOW TO TEACH
EFFECTIVELY
1. Preparation:

👉Good understanding of the subject

matter,
👉 spend quality time in studying.
👉 Use the outline as a guide
👉 Read scriptures from various
translations; look up meaning of
words-never assume;
EPH. 2:10
👉 Read Christian books related to the
subject
👉 Exercise the truth discovered before class.
👉 God’s Word MUST first get into you
before it can get into the children, especially
if you are teaching older children.
👉 Prepare a lesson note before every class.
(Please refer to previous training on lesson
note preparation or consult those previously
trained)

1 Cor. 2:12-13; 2 Pet. 1:20

👉 Defined goals for lesson note.
👉 Establish the aims and
objectives
👉 Prayer for the help of the
Holy Spirit all through the
process ( from preparation to
delivery)

Be meek. Ps. 25:9,14

2. Identify the strategies and tactics to use in any class
situation.

Prepare visual aids and

materials that will aid
effective communication.
3. Communicate boldly (Acts 14:3)

So they remained for a long

time, speaking boldly for the
Lord, who bore witness to the
word of his grace, granting
signs and wonders to be done
by their hands
4. Take home

Could be a read-up or a
practical assignment. It will
help understanding of the
new truth they've
encountered for application
and adoption.
4.0 BENEFITS OF EFFECTIVE
TEACHING (1 Pet 5:1-4)

1 Peter 5:1-4

1 The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness
of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed:
2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by
compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly;
3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;
4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that
does not fade away.
👉 Fulfillment on the teacher’s part

👉Reward of stewardship (Psalm 122:9)

“He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his
righteousness endureth for ever.”

👉 Lives are transformed – Both the teacher and the

children. (Prov. 11:25-26)
“The liberal soul shall be made fat: And he that watereth
shall be watered also himself. He that withholdeth corn,
the people shall curse him: But blessing shall be upon the
head of him that selleth it.”
5.0 CONCLUSION

The essence of teaching is for

transformation of lives. The
teaching of any subject matter
cannot be said to be effective
without being a companied by
transformation in the lives of
children taught
