WHAT IS POETRY ?
• Poetry is a written expression of feelings and
ideas in and imaginative style with a rhythm.

• Poetry allows people to express their thoughts


and feelings in a creative way .
ELEMENTS OF POETRY
• Understanding poetry , here are some elements of
poetry .

→ lines/ verses

→ Stanza

→ Rhyme

→ free verse
LINES OR VERSES
• Poetry contain lines or verse .

• The length of a line may be measured in two ways


→The no: of syllables or
→ The no: of meters/foot .
Example : Thus in the winter stands the lonely tree .
STANZA

• Stanza can be defined as the number of lines present in it .


• There are several types of Stanza ;
• Couplet → ( 2 lines )
• Trecet → ( 3 lines )
• Quatrain → ( 4 lines )
• Quantain → ( 5 lines )
• Sestet → ( 6 lines )
• septet → ( 7 lines )
• Octave → ( 8 lines )
RHYME

• It is the same sound at the end of poetic

FREE VERSE
