Introduction
The world is full of people who claim to be
leaders. But the Bible says, “By their fruits
you shall know them”. Not only must we
learn the right person to follow, we must
also learn how to manage leadership
challenges.
Definition of Leadership
• “Leadership is taking the lead in your field
that makes men refer to you.” – David
Oyedepo
• "Leadership is the capacity to translate vision
into reality.”- Warren G. Bennis
“Don't follow
the crowd, let
the crowd
follow you.” ~
Margaret
Thatcher
Questions for You!
• Who has had the most influence on
you?
Models of Leadership
• Models of leadership refer to persons who have
demonstrated leadership and who are worthy
of emulation in the school of leadership.
• It can also refer to the best methods of
leadership (Styles of leadership).
• This course looks at it from both perspectives.
• Remember those who led you, who spoke
the word of God to you; and considering the
result of their conduct, imitate their faith. –
Hebrews 13:7.
• And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I
will make you fishers of men.- Mathew 4:19.
Why do we need to study models of leadership?
• Common leadership qualities are discovered.
• “The secrets of great men are in their stories.” – Dr
David Oyedepo
• We find our mentors.
• Models help us to understand leadership.
• We get inspired by the achievements of great
leaders.
Challenges of Leadership
What are some of the challenges
leaders encounter?
Challenges of leadership
• Challenges of leadership can be described as the
internal and external issues that have the capacity
to inhibit the effective delivery of purposeful
leadership.
• For a great door and effectual is opened unto me,
and there are many adversaries. 1 Corinthians
16:9
“The challenge of
leadership is to be
strong but not rude; be
kind, but not weak; be
bold, but not a bully; be
humble, but not timid;
be proud, but not
arrogant; have humor,
but without folly” ~ Jim
Rohn
Sources of Challenges for Leaders
• Lack of skills
• Lack of information
• Lack of understanding and wisdom
• Selfishness
• Corruption
• Lack of character
• Etc
“"The ultimate measure of a
man is not where he stands
in moments of comfort and
convenience, but where he
stands at times of challenge
and controversy." ~ Martin
Luther King Jr.
Change it, don’t join it
“The world would love you as one of its
own if you belonged to it, but you are no
longer part of the world. I chose you to
come out of the world, so it hates you.”
John 15:19
