Introduction
 The art of building houses is not new to mankind.
 It has engaged human mind from pre-historic ages to protect him from the
sun and rain and also cold temperature.
 The technique and form of building construction has under gone
revolutionary changes at the hand of civil Engineers.
 With the development of civilization and engineering technology during
twentieth century, man has built most modern buildings not only for
residential purpose, but also for business, educational, recreational,

governmental owned construction company registered in the
city administration, and certified by the government to
undertake construction activities in any part of the country.
 it has been engaged in various construction activities in Gamo
Zone as ranging from the simplest (schools, hospitals, higher
educational centers and residential buildings) and

parts of these zone for which they have attached the
document here with this proposal under the past
performance section.
 To assure this vision the firm has been working with great
devotion and responsibility to fulfill the interest of the
client with an acceptable profit to company. The firm
believes that all construction projects have an element of
risk, but minimizing the risk and maximizing the profit is
the responsibility of construction companies .
 Objectives of internship practice
 To link students with industries, so that they practice
and develop technical and operational knowledge in
various sections of the industries.
 To make students apply theoretical knowledge, gain
practical skills and develop skill of solving real world
problems. To know how theoretical knowledge takes
place in site activities
 To upgrade theoretical knowledge
 To improve professional and personal skills.

Over all internship experience

 The university industry linkage program is planned to create a good
interaction between universities and industries, and also create students
that
have the capability of facing and solving practical problems.
Because of these reasons.
 Mizan- teppi University has given a great deal attention to this program
in helping students, starting from searching companies that are willing to
be part of this program to giving essential documents and schedules .

 The companies that were made available for civil engineering
students were very much limited in number and most of them
were outside the major cities. Because of this reason we were
requested to search companies by our own that were suitable
interns of place of work, transportation availability, the
company’s acceptance and availability of work that were good.
If a student could not bring any company’s acceptance the
student would be forced to work on companies that were made
available by the university industry linkage office.

 Because of the above-mentioned reasons, we spent the
Summer break trying to find construction companies that are
willing to be part of the program and make the necessary
arrangements. That’s when Arba minch city administration
construction office. Comes. But all the projects of this
government office were going to finish, so we are enforced
to get office. Because of we have no alternatives .

 When we first went to these office we found a good service
from the general manager Ato Kasahun and the site engineer
Ato Getachew of the firm, and also from other employees. we
stried to illustrate and give information about the internship
program, so that they should give special attention to it,
because the firm will also gain some advantageous from the
program.
 As we went to the firm on the first day of the internship, we
had to wait for the site engineer and give the necessary
documents and papers that will be filled by the firm. So as to
make my stay on the firm according to the university’s
program.
 On the office there were one working section on site. We
were placed in the site as an assistance site engineer and office

 Supervising the works that have been done

 Preparing take off sheet
 Making bar schedules for the bar benders
 Checking and supervising the mix ratios of lean concrete,
normal concrete, mortar
 Collecting data from the site
 Controlling the casting of concrete

Challenges
 As an assistance site engineer we were faced with many
challenges. These are:-
 Language problem as it was our first work;
 Communication problem with the staff as the environment
new to me.
 Lack of office equipment like computers on the site.
 Agreeing with other work colleges.
 The existence of black cotton soil:

Benefits
In our internship too, there were some benefits
those are gained accordingly. The benefits are:

To apply theoretical knowledge.

 Conclusion
On the internship period we worked on diffirent projects. This
in return enables us to learn and study the organizational
structure of the firm, work flow of the projects and procedures
used in each works. And also helps us to learn the different
working tasks of the projects.
The works we have done during the internship period are:-
 Preparing takeoff sheets.
 Managing workers on the site .
 Supervising the works that have been done.
 Collecting data.
 Operating construction machineries.
 Organizing documents
 RECOMMENDATION
 By studying the company organization structure and work flow
we would like to recommend the company the following terms:
Must have additional highly professional skilled man powers,
this enables the firm to attend projects with a lot of speed and
accuracy.
 Use modern machineries and equipment’s, this will enable the
projects to be finished with a lot of speed and will save a lot
money that will be taken out for labors. And also has the
advantage of using the machineries for a longer period of time.

Use steel form works as much as possible, since steel
form work has good strength and quality of work it can be
used for many projects without any problem. But when
we come to timber, it can only be used for one project.
Arrange the necessary materials and office for interns,
this will help the interns to incited and work with
responsibility.
Provide the necessary row materials, used to avoid
unnecessary termination of projects due to shortage of
raw materials.
Avoid miss communication between the employees, this
can be done by arranging company meetings at least ones
a month.
