Types of Speeches according to
Functions
1. Informative Speech
• Informative speech is a type of speech in which the speaker tries to
inform the audience about a particular subject. The speaker shares the
information on a specific place, person, issue, or occasion by describing,
explaining, and defining.
• It provides useful information and knowledge that makes the particular
subject easy to understand for the audience.
Importance of informative speech:
• The purpose of the informative speech is to provide interesting,
useful, and unique information to your audience. By dedicating
yourself to the goals of providing information and appealing to
your audience, you can take a positive step toward succeeding
in your efforts as an informative speaker.
Different types of informative speech
1. Descriptive speech
• It generates a detailed image in the imagination of the audience of a person, place, event, etc.
2. Exploratory speech
• It focuses on describing the "how" and "why" of a topic.

• Clarifies the meaning of the notion or a phrase
4. Demonstrative speech
It's a type of step-by-step instruction.
Tips on writing informative speech
1.Analyze the audience.
2.Use appropriate language.
3.Explain the importance of the topic.
4.Express interest in the subject material.
5.Show, don’t tell.
6.Be specific.
2. Persuasive Speech
• The aim of this speech is to
convince the audience to change
their views or beliefs.
Two categories of persuasive speech:
a. According to topic
b. According to purpose
PERSUASIVE SPEECHES ACCORDING TO
TOPIC:
factual persuasive speech
• based on the question, “is it true”?
• Whether or based or not a particular issue is true and is backed
by concrete evidence.
value persuasive speech
• centers on arguing something which is right, moral, and ethical.
policy persuasive speech
• to convince an audience to either support or reject a dogma,
rule, regulation or a program.

• includes establishing beliefs, but it always call for the audience to
act.

3. Entertainment Speech
• A speaker of an entertainment speech
provides and enjoyment that make the
audience laugh or identify with anecdotal
information.

The Core Purpose of an Entertaining Speech
• To amuse the audience and obviously entertain them. They're
usually less formal in nature to help communicate emotions rather
than to simply talk about a couple of fact.
