ADVENTURE
A story in which the characters go somewhere exciting and
dangerous. An adventure story can be an exciting, danger,
risk, magical, spooky, supernatural, disaster/emergency,
quest or mission.
ADVENTURE
An adventure story has
elements such as fast
moving action,
discoveries of new and
exciting things, and
moments of danger. The
main character is usually
on a quest to find
something or someone.
FEATURES OF AN ADVENTURE STORY

A hero
01 The main character of an action-adventure
story will most often start out as an ordinary
person before they embark on their
adventure.

A quest
02 The protagonist will be presented with a
problem they need to solve. This quest will
ignite the plot with a series of events that
create the storyline.

An unfamiliar setting
03 The character’s journey will take them from their
familiar, everyday surroundings to a new,
unfamiliar environment. This setting/place will
create problem that increase tension to main
character.
FEATURES OF AN ADVENTURE STORY

A villain
04 as a protagonist is on their journey, there are
almost always bad guys in pursuit.
Antagonists increase the stakes for the main
character and heighten the tension.

An element of risk
05 A character faces peril throughout an
adventure story. Their quest forces them to
make decisions that put their lives, or the
lives of others, at risk.

A transformation
06 Throughout their journey, the main character goes
through a metamorphosis from ordinary person to
hero.
