Force Demo Teaching

This document describes two activities to demonstrate the effects of force on the movement of objects. The first activity involves pushing a toy car with varying levels of force and measuring how far it travels. Students observe that applying a stronger force causes the car to travel farther. The second activity uses a spring balance to measure the force exerted by hanging different numbers of padlocks. Students learn that applying a greater force or mass causes a greater extension of the spring. The key lessons are that stronger forces allow objects to travel farther, while weaker forces mean shorter distances, and objects with greater mass require greater forces to move.

Effects of Force on the

Movement of an Object
RULES TO FOLLOW:
F – follow instructions
O – observe discipline
R – respect others opinions
C – cooperate with group mates
E – examine output before posting
ACTIVITY 1: PUSH and Go!

 Select a flat surface on the classroom floor.

 Mark starting point on the floor. Gently push the toy car with your hand.
Observe how far it travelled. Measure the distance using the meter stick.
Record your observation.
 Bring the toy car back to the starting line and repeat step 2 but this time push
the toy car with stronger force. Observe how far it travelled. Record your
observation.
 Repeat step 3 for three more times with varying forces applied on the toy car.
Record your observation on your data table.
ACTIVITY 2: HANG and PULL!

 Hang a padlock on a spring balance. Measure the force

exerted by the padlock on the spring. Record your observation
in your data table.
 Add another padlock to the spring balance and take note of
the force exerted by the two padlocks. Record your
observation.
PUSH and GO!

 How do you compare the distance travelled by

the toy car when you pushed it with varying
strength of forces?
 Which degree of force applied made the toy
car travelled farthest? Nearest?
HANG and PULL!

 What did you observe with the spring balance

when you hanged a padlock on it?

 What was the effect on the spring balance as

you add more padlocks?
HANG and PULL!

 What will happen if you keep on adding more

padlocks to the spring balance?
JUST FOR FUN!

EFFECTS OF FORCE ON THE
MOVEMENT OF AN OBJECT
Remember:

STRONGER FORCE FARTHER the toy car travels.

WEAKER FORCE NEARER the toy car travels.

Remember:

GREATER MASS GREATER FORCE

LESSER MASS LESSER FORCE

REMEMBER THESE:
 The STRONGER the FORCE exerted, the FARTHER the toy car
travels.
 The WEAKER the FORCE exerted, the NEARER the toy car travels.
 Objects with GREATER MASS require GREATER FORCE to move.
 Objects with LESSER MASS require LESSER FORCE to move.

4. If you are to push a cart, a box and a bicycle to a certain distance form
starting line, which require you to exert a greater force?
a. Cart b. Box
c. Bicycle d. All of them
Direction: Encircle the correct answer.

5. The stronger the force exerted the ________ the toy car travels.
a. farther b. nearer
c. slower d. lesser
ASSIGNMENT:

 A delivery truck stopped in front of your house. They

will deliver a balikbayan box which you mother sent
for you. The box is heavy for the delivery men to
carry. What can you suggest so that they can carry
the box easier?
List down suggestions.
