Language
• is a speech sound produced by human beings to express their ideas,
emotions, thoughts, desires, and feelings – Aristotle

Summary
Language is a tool of communication. Communication is a process of
transferring messages.
Verbal, non-verbal, written, and visual are the four types of communication.
The sender, encoding, message, channel, receiver, decoding, feedback, and
noise are the element of communication.
There are different models of communication, which vary on the elements
that are present in the communication processes.
It is important to identify the elements, factors, and processes to ensure
effective communication.
Group Activity
• Choose one model of communication and illustrate it through a skit. At
the end of the presentation, ask the following to the audience or the
class:
a. What are the elements of communication portrayed in the skit?
b. Which model is illustrated?
c. What are the factors that contribute to the success and failure of the
communication process?
Assessment
Answer the following.
1. Make a concept map showing how the communication
process works, describe the process in 50 words.
2. Think of a scenario that can show any of the communication
models, and explain your work using any of the standard
communication models.
