POLLUTION
• The Introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful
materials are called pollutants
• Pollutants can be natural, such as volcanic ash.
• They can also be created by human activity, such as trash or runoff produced by
factories.
• Pollutants damage the quality of air, water, and land.
Pollution is basically classified in 4 types

Air pollution
• Presence of substances in air that are harmful to health of humans and other living
beings, or cause damage to the climate or to material.
• Air pollution may cause diseases, allergies, and even death to humans; it may also cause
harm to other living organisms such as animals and food crop, and may damage the
natural environment., For example :- climate change, ozone depletion, acid rain, etc.
• Air pollution can be generated by both human and natural processes.
• Air pollution can cause numerous pollution-related diseases, including respiratory
infections, heart diseases, lung cancer, etc.
• Most effective means to reduce air pollution is the transition to renewable energy.
Water pollution
• The release of substances into subsurface groundwater or into lakes, rivers, oceans, etc.
• In addition to release of substances, such as chemical or microorganism into water bodies
results in water pollution.
• Polluted water is unsafe for drinking and swimming, some people got infected due to hazardous
chemicals and bacteria which is present in polluted water.
• There are some natural sources of water pollution, oil and natural gases can leak into ocean and
lakes from natural underground sources.
• To counter water pollution, sewages should be properly managed, we should ensure minimal
use of bleach or detergents.
