Comparatives adjectives

Unit 3, lesson b
We use comparatives
adjectives to compare the
differences between two
things or people.
We can see if they are the same or different. Perhaps they are the
same in some ways and different in other ways. We can use
comparative adjectives to describe the differences
Daniel is older than Carlos

versus

Carlos is younger than Daniel


Daniel is more reserved than Carlos

versus

Carlos is more outgoing than Daniel


 Shakira is shorter than Clara.

 Clara is absolutely younger than Shakira.

 Shakira is wealthier than Clara (she wears Rolex).

 Clara is more beautiful than Skakira.

 Shakira is more popular than Clara.

 Shakira dances better than Clara.


Formation of the comparative

› short adjectives (one syllable):

add "-er" + than

Baclavas are sweeter than cakes.


Santiago is bigger than Concepción
Mario is taller than Edward.
Formation of the comparative

› short adjectives (two syllables):


add "-ier" + than

A watermelon is heavier than a grape


Cameron is wealthier than Nicole
Vegetales are healthier than fatty food
Formation of the comparative

› long adjectives: (more than two syllables)


with an exception for syllables ending in “y”

add "more” +adjective+ than


Motorbikes are more dangerous than cars.
Good health is more important than money.
Michel Jackson was more famous than amy winehouse.

COMPARATIVE

 GOOD Italian food is better than American food.

 BAD Bad excuses are worse than none.

 FAR Mars is further than the moon from


planet Earth.
