Introduction to Data Science
Data Science is a combination of multiple disciplines that uses statistics,
data analysis, and machine learning to analyze data and to extract
knowledge and insights from it.
What is Data Science?
Data Science is about data gathering, analysis and decision-making.
Data Science is about finding patterns in data, through analysis, and make
future predictions.
By using Data Science, companies are able to make:
Better decisions (should we choose A or B)
Predictive analysis (what will happen next?)
Pattern discoveries (find pattern, or maybe hidden information in the data)
History Of Data Science
In 1962, John Tukey described a field he called "data analysis", which resembles
modern data science
The term “Data Science” was created in the early 1960s to describe a new profession
which would support the understanding and interpretation of the large amounts of data
which was being amassed at the time.
Data science continues to evolve as a discipline using computer science and statistical
methodology to make useful predictions and gain insights in a wide range of fields.
IMPORTANCE OF DATA SCIENCE
Data is one of the important features of every organization because it helps business
leaders to make decisions based on facts, statistical numbers, and trends.
Due to this growing scope of data, data science came into the picture which is a
multidisciplinary field.
It uses scientific approaches, procedures, algorithms, and frameworks to extract
knowledge and insight from a huge amount of data.
Earlier the data used to be in a structured format which was small in size and hence
could be handled using simple BI tools.
Data science Challenges
Data collection. ...
The abundance of data sources. ...
Data security and privacy. ...
Data preparation. ...
Managing large data volumes. ...
Data discovery. ...
Extracting the right insights. ...
Finding the right talent.
ADVANTAGES
• Improves Business Predictions
• Helps in Sales & Marketing
• Increases Information Security
• Complex Data Interpretation
• Healthcare.
• Logistics
DISADVANTAGES
• Data Science is Blurry Term. Data Science is a very general term and does not have
a definite definition. ...
• Mastering Data Science is near to impossible. ...
• Large Amount of Domain Knowledge Required. ...
• Arbitrary Data May Yield Unexpected Results. ...
• Problem of Data Privacy.
