The following paragraph contains verbs that express
present time. Can you point them out?
Like other animals, insects grow and change.
They become adults, and later on, they die. Before
they die, some of the adults produce their young.
The changes and the growth in the life of an
organism like an insect, make up a life cycle. A life
cycle is a pattern that is repeated.
The present tense of the verb does not only tell what
we habitually do. It also expresses general truths or
facts. Go over these sentences. They express general
truths or facts.
1. Insects grow and change.
2. They become adults.
3. An insect undergoes its life cycle.
4. A caterpillar grows into a young butterfly.
The verbs grow, change, and become are in the
simple or base form. They do not end with –s or –es.
They go with the plural subjects. This form is referred
to as the plural verb form.
The forms undergoes and grows are used with
singular subjects- insect and caterpillar. They end with
–es and –s respectively. This form is called the
singular verb form.
Here are other verbs. Note carefully their simple or
base form and singular and plural forms.

The simple tenses of a verb are used to express
present, past, and future actions or conditions.
The simple present tense is used to show an action
that done repeatedly or habitually.
It also expresses facts or truths.
The verb forms for the simple present tense are the
base form and the –s or –es form. The base form
