An examination of retention practices used in the microfinance sector in


Zimbabwe. A case study of Gweru.
INTODUCTION

The powerpoint sammarises the research proposal by highlighting; the background of the
study, problem statement, purpose of the study, research questions and objective. Also
highlighted is the research methodology to be used.
BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

• A study by Padhi et al (2020) revealed that employee retention tends to lead to


organisational performance.
• Employees in any organization are the most valuable assets, likewise, today’s competitive
organization's pressing issue is employee retention (Singh, 2019; Ma et al, 2018).
• The recurrence of employee turnover can only be reduced by putting in place retention
strategies that will keep employees in the organization for a long time.
• Organisations must design appropriate systems to retain their quality employees.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
High labour turnover is a cause of concern for microfinance institutions in Zimbabwe.
This has led to increased cost of hiring, reduced productivity and high work overload
for the remaining employees. Despite some microfinance institutions coming up with
improved reward systems, the problem of employee turnover is still escalating.

The researcher seeks to examine retention practices which can be put in place by
microfinance institutions using Gweru as a case study.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The proposed study will assist in investigating the retention practices that can be used to
improve the operations of microfinance institutions.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

Main objective

• To examine the effects of retention practices in microfinance institutions in Zimbabwe.

Sub-objectives

• a. To analyse retention practices in microfinance institutions.

• b. To examine factors that hinder the implementation of retention in microfinance institutions.

• c. To design a retention practices model to enhance the operations of microfinance institutions.
