AutomaticSolarTracking 1

This project document summarizes a final year project on an automatic solar tracking system. [1] It introduces the basic components of the system including solar panels, stepper motors, actuators and displays. [2] It describes two types of solar trackers - single-axis and dual-axis trackers. [3] The document outlines the working of the solar trackers, the need for solar tracking systems, their applications and advantages like low maintenance costs and increased efficiency. It also lists some disadvantages like high initial investment.

INTRODUCTION
BASIC COMPONENT

 The solar panel

 Stepper motor
 Actuator
 A display unit(optimal)
 Interfacing
Types Of Solar Tracker

# Single Axis Solar Tracker

# Dual Axis Solar Tracker

Single Axis Solar Tracker can either have a horizontal or vertical axis.
The horizontal type is use in tropical regions where the sun
get very high at noon but the day are short.
WORKING

The solar trackers directly solar panel or modules toward the sun. these
device change their orientation throughout the day to fallow the suns
path to maximize energy capture. Single axis solar tracker rotate on the
axis moving back and forth in single direction.
NEED FOR SUN TRACKING SYSTEM

 Global warming has increased the demand and

request for green energy produced by renewal
sources as solar power.
 Solae energy has been the power supply of choice
for industrial application where power is required
at remote location.
 Solar tracking is increasingly applied as effective
power generation.
ENERGY
PRODUCTION
DIAGRAM:
APPLICATION

 Can be use for small and medium scale power

generation.
 For power generation at remote places where
power lines are not accessible .
 For domestic back up power systems.
It can be use industries.
ADVANTAGES

 Solar tracking system has low maintainance cost.

 One time investment, which provides higher
efficiency and flexibility.
 Renewable energy sources.
 Reduce electricity bill.
 Diverse applications.
 Technology development.
DISADVANTAGES

 Initial investment is high on solar panel.

 Its a bit of difficult for servicing as the tracking
system are not quite popular regionally.
 moving part and gear which will require regular
maintenance .
CONCLUSION

 On one hand we can see the world energy resources

depletion to be a major problem .
 On of other hand global warming which is a major concern
 Switching to solar power which is clean and green and
inhancing its efficiency by using sun trackers is a great
option in the near future.
