PSP Lab Project

This document summarizes a power system protection analysis project for a ten bus system. The analysis included: 1. Load flow analysis to determine steady state operation and find voltages, currents, and powers. 2. Fault analysis to provide information for switchgear rating requirements and selection of protective devices. 3. Motor, bus, and transmission line protection schemes. ETAP software simulations modeled load flow, faults near the substation and transmission lines, and faults at the generation side to analyze the system and inform protective relay settings. The overall goal was to ensure safety and protect the system and equipment from faults and abnormal conditions.

❑ What is Power System Protection?
● A branch of electrical engineering
● Deals with protection of power system against faults

❑ Why A System Needs Protection?

● There is ‘fault free’ system
● Ensure safety of personal
● System Overcurrent, Over voltage, lightning, etc.

❑ Power System without Protection

● Short circuits and other abnormal condition
● Heavy current associated with short circuits Cause damage to the equipment.
