• A building, or edifice, is an enclosed structure with a roof and walls
standing more or less permanently in one place, such as a house or
factory (although there's also portable buildings).
Reason/Need of Building
• Buildings serve several societal needs – primarily as shelter from
weather, security, living space, privacy, to store belongings, and to
comfortably live and work.
Impact of Buildings on Environment
• In reality, the construction sector contributes to 23% of air pollution,
40% of drinking water pollution, and 50% of landfill wastes.
Why are building very important?

• The building sector plays a large role in the energy consumption


which includes space heating or cooling, domestic hot water and
electricity. Buildings with their long lifespan and huge amount of
already existing buildings, makes revision in energy characteristics of a
building constrained.
